About the Job
The Geneva Suites, residential assisted living, is seeking a hands-on, organized, and versatile Controller who thrives on knowing that their attention to the financial health of the organization affects the staff, residents and vendors.
In this role, you will solely be responsible for the company’s financial bookkeeping, accounting, and payroll. As our Controller you will process the Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), rental billing statements, bi-weekly payroll, and tax filings, while sharing our passion to bring happiness to the residents whom we serve. Knowledge of processing private payors, Elderly Waiver (EW) and CADI is highly desirable.
Controller Responsibilities:
- Maximizes return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.
- Oversee operating budget and ensure financial health of the organization.
- Forecast cash flow needs, planning, and alerting upper management for cash flow deficiencies.
- Compile monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
- Responsible for all accounting-related activities: verify, maintain and reconcile assigned payer A/R and A/P accounts in QuickBooks.
- Manage and process bi-weekly payroll.
- Ensure that external reporting or filing deadlines are met and that specific changes imposed by external regulatory agencies have been followed.
- Must be adaptable, flexible to changes, and able to prioritize and organize work efficiently to accomplish workload within time allotted.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and relate professionally, positively, and cooperatively with residents, resident’s families, employees, vendors and visitors.
- Analyze and submit billing of all assigned payers according to company established deadlines.
- Communicate with state and county offices to obtain and provide necessary information on residents/tenants (CADI, Elderly Waiver, etc).
- Review aging: follow up on any account if it is in arrears per company established policies.
- File inquiries, reconsiderations, and appeals to appropriate agencies or individuals for rejected claims or statements.
- Coordinate and enter daily deposits, balance daily receipts, and post daily journal payments.
- Prepare reports, including collection notes and the A/R aging report by company deadlines.
- Manage and process invoices and required reporting with payables systems.
- Complete required reporting, including Certificate of Rent Paid, and other reporting requested by other departments.
- Understand, comply with, and promote all rules regarding all licensure requirements and resident’s rights. Work with Director of Operations & CXO on annual renewals and admission document updates.
- Respond to family inquiries regarding monthly statements
Financial Controller Skills and Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree, or higher, in Accounting or Finance
- 7 years' experience in Accounting or Finance in small to mid-sized business setting
- Experience working with multiple legal entities under various legal umbrellas
- Prior bookkeeping experience required (QuickBooks, General Ledger Accounting, etc.)
- Payroll processing experience
- Experience with client/resident interaction and preference given for those experienced working with state and county services
- Strong computer skills in Excel and Word with comfort navigating websites to make/process payments as needed
- Highly organized, with strong initiative and consistent follow-through
- Strong work ethic and the capability to simultaneously pursue multiple priorities
- Maintain strict confidentiality of information
- Good judgment, problem solving and decision-making skills
- Demonstrates the ability to function in a fast-paced, team environment with frequent interruptions
- Verbal and written fluency of the English language, sufficient to carry out the duties identified in this job description
- Must successfully complete all new employee background studies including I-9, Minnesota criminal background check, Mantoux screening and reference checks
- Experience working in a healthcare setting a plus
