Primary purpose: Oversee the preparation and review of financial statements and the timely filing of regulatory reports with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) and U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principle (GAAP) stand-alone reporting. Perform reviews of the above types of reports that will be prepared by other financial reporting staff and/or managers and directors. Assist with overseeing the monthly and quarterly close and consolidation processes for KMI and its subsidiaries.
Essential duties and responsibilities: - Manage the period end close of KMI and its subsidiaries including review of recurring and unique journal entries.
- Review the financial information for SEC quarterly and annual reports under U.S. GAAP financial statements.
- Coordinate debt offering needs with Legal and Treasury
- Review documentation prepared to department standards to meet internal control requirements.
- Perform detailed reviews of SEC and GAAP reports prepared by others.
- Resolve complex accounting issues.
- Review and present complex accounting memos for external auditors.
- Assist the controller and vice president with internal process improvements.
- Coordinate and interface with external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits.
Minimum requirements: Education: - Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field is required.
- General understanding of the energy industry and familiarity with industry terminology preferred.
Experience/Specific Knowledge: - Minimum of 10 years’ experience in an accounting-related position, with at least 4 years of supervisory experience in SEC financial reporting.
Competencies, Skills & Abilities: - Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes, with the ability to identify potential disclosure issues and determine required disclosures from applicable US GAAP accounting guidance and/or SEC regulations.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks successfully and simultaneously, meet multiple deadlines and work with minimal direct supervision.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Above the minimum requirements, not required but advantageous in this position: - CPA a plus.
- FERC financial reporting experience a plus.
- IFRS knowledge is desirable.
