The Phoenixville Borough Civil Service Commission is seeking applicants to establish an eligibility list for the position of Firefighter (full-time) in the Phoenixville Borough Fire Department. The Borough of Phoenixville is a 3.5 square mile industrial era steel town located 30 miles west of Philadelphia in historic Chester County. The town of nearly 20,000 residents is situated near a number of colleges and universities and has a lively entertainment and dining district. Weekend visitors increase the number of downtown inhabitants significantly, as the borough hosts numerous street festivals and town-center events.
Applications and forms required to be completed to apply for the position of Firefighter are available during regular business hours from the Human Resources Department, located on the second floor of Phoenixville Borough Hall, 351 Bridge Street, Phoenixville, PA 19460, by mail, or by visiting the Borough’s website at www.phoenixville.org *THERE IS NO APPLICATION FEE.
Every applicant for the fire department shall possess a diploma from an accredited high school or a graduate equivalency diploma. In addition, every applicant must be a United States citizen and meet all Civil Service requirements. To be eligible to apply for a position in the fire department, an applicant must have satisfactorily completed the following: Firefighter 1 (NFPA 1001), Firefighter 2 (NFPA 1001),
PA DOH EMR, PA DOH EMR, EVOC, Hazardous Materials Operations, Pump Operations I, NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800, CPR/AED, PA DOH Vehicle Rescue Technician or Vehicle Technical Rescuer – Technical Level (NFPA 1006), Water Rescue – Awareness Level (PA Boat & Fish Commission). PA DOH EMT (preferred).
Age and Residency Requirements: All applicants must have reached their eighteenth (18th) birthday before the deadline for submitting completed applications. Firefighters must reside within twenty-five (25) miles of the perimeter of the Borough of Phoenixville, at the time of hire (or at a minimum upon completion of the hiring probationary period).
Benefits: $30.28 per hour, Retirement Plan, Medical and Hospitalization Insurance, fringe benefits.
Completed applications must be turned in to the Human Resources Department at Borough Hall during normal business hours or sent via USPS, UPS or FEDEX. Applications must be received no later than 3:30 PM on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 for consideration.
A written exam will be held at the Chester County Public Safety Training Campus, 137 Modena Road, Coatesville, PA 19320 on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at 9:00 AM. Applicants will take the physical agility test the same date at approximately 12:00 PM. The standards for successfully completing physical agility are listed in the Borough pf Phoenixville’s Civil Service Rules and Regulations. Other mandatory components of the application process are an oral examination, a background investigation, a medical examination, and a psychological examination.
