REPORTS TO: Fitness & Recreation Supervisor
SUPERVISES: N/A
STATUS: Non-Exempt
SCHEDULE: Part Time / Multiple shifts to cover 6AM to 8 PM Monday through Friday and 8AM to 2PM on Saturdays.
FUNCTION: This worker will serve as part of the Kroc Fitness team. They will work in a way that provides a supportive environment in order to promote Christian faith and value in keeping with the Mission of The Salvation Army. They will be role models for children and youth, mentoring in appropriate ways. They will act as facilitators of healthy lives.
Responsibilities:General:
- Display good character and be passionate about impacting others lives through the realm of fitness.
- Display a good understanding of exercise and fitness.
- Use excellent communication skills to work positively with different populations and build rapport with clients
- Ensure that a safe and healthy environment exists for participants
- Give the Director of Fitness advanced notice if unable to be at scheduled shift
- Keep up-to-date on safety and fitness trends
- Maintain any certifications
- Will work evening and weekend hours.
Equipment/Facility/Clients:
- Help assess client’s needs and run new clients through the machines on their first visit
- Evaluate, correct, and instruct members on proper exercise techniques
- Evaluate, correct, and instruct members on how to properly use the exercise equipment
- Answer questions from clients and be able to prescribe flexibility, cardiovascular, and strength training exercises
- Take clients, measurements, BMI, weight, and blood pressure
- Keep the equipment clean and functioning properly
- Keep the weights and dance studio equipment in order
Administration:
- Help train and guide other interns
- Buzz people in and answer calls or questions at the check-in desk
- Sell apparel and items from the Juice Bar
- Attend all staff meetings
- Assist in planning and executing special activities and events related to the department
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Working towards or posses a degree in physical fitness
- Some experience in the field of fitness
- Must be able to design a fitness “program” for individuals
- Must be able work in a team environment
- Must be safety conscious
- Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly, in English
- Must have the ability to work and relate well with individuals with varying needs
- Must be able to handle difficult situations/confrontations in a professional manner
- Must be able to work in a very active and physical environment
- Must possess an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army
