Fitness Coordinator
Position Summary:
The Fitness Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the fitness department of the facility and ensuring that the fitness department contributes to the overall success of the Club.
Critical Success Factors:
- Establish the department as the resource for the fitness enthusiast. Leads the community in programs, knowledge, events, education, and special clinics and workshops.
- Control and monitor club usage levels. This involves monitoring daily usage, recognizing popular usage times and providing a strategy to maximize usage throughout the day.
- Surveying and relating to the General Manager information regarding our competitors and other facilities (locally, regionally, nationally) at least twice per year on the club’s policy and procedures, organizational structure and compensation packages.
- Be able to generate meaningful and accurate forecasting and budgeting, analyze and review monthly financial statements and provide strategy to achieve and reach the goals as established.
Essential Duties:
- The administration, management, supervision, development of staff and resources including grooming and training a potential successor. Promote excellence within the club through staff appearance, training, service and communication.
- Develop programs (coordinate with other departments) that cater to perspective members as well as current members. Some programs may be available to non-members. These must be structured in a way that is fair to our existing embers and satisfies the market in a safe and effective manner.
- This position is expected to forecast industry trends, plan and budget accordingly.
- Meet regularly with Fitness Staff.
- Attend regular management meetings of the facility, as well as, inter-departmental and inter-club meetings with other fitness directors.
- Be proactive in looking at the facility to identify facility needs and improvements on a daily basis.
- Organize, conduct, and participate in promotional and educational activities:
- Equipment trends.
- Plan events.
- Posting articles and information pertinent to the fitness industry.
- Create certifications for community (instructors)
- Read industry magazines and other material to remain current on latest technical and scientific knowledge in fitness and provide fitness staff with this information.
- Surveying and relating to manager information regarding our competitors and other facilities (locally, regionally, nationally) at least twice per year on fees structures, lessons, programs, compensation.
- Evaluate safety, effectiveness and applicability of the fitness products and practices.
- Respond to members' oral and written requests within 48 hours.
- Write program updates and articles on fitness and special classes for the club newsletter.
- Be able to demonstrate knowledge of and incorporate into the department the history of our organization, knowledge of other facilities and personnel, our vision, core values and be able to impart this knowledge, lead and develop staff that supports these principles.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills And Abilities Required:
- Ability to work with little supervision.
- Ability to interact effectively with people, teaching and motivating them in a positive and constructive manner.
- Ability to provide leadership to staff and Club members.
- Ability to delegate effectively.
- Ability to effectively express ideas and concepts verbally.
- Ability to work with budgets.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures and theories of management in the fitness industry.
- Well organized and accurate in the handling of paperwork and record keeping.
- Available to work varied schedule including nights and weekends.
Qualifications:
- 4 year degree in Exercise Science or related field.
- ACSM certification or NSCA-CSCS.
- 3 years experience in fitness industry.
- CPR Certification.

Compensation is hourly plus commission.
