Summary/Objective: Helpers work closely with journeymen to ensure daily tasks are met. Helpers are to assist both welders and fitters in all aspects of fabrication and assembly both in shops and at work sites. They are to operate all hand/automated tools including tape measure, steel square, wrenches, ratchets, grinders, and sawzalls. Assisting in layouts / fit ups, Cut using oxygen/acetylene torch or plasma cutter, and removing sharp edges / slag from welds are also among the numerous tasks of a helper.

- Assistance to journeyman on day-to-day tasks
- Fire watch duties
- Maintain cleanliness in workspace.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Identify safety risks and comply with safety procedures.
- Load and unload vehicles.
- Transporting / Removing equipment from job site.
- Assisting welders running set ups and moving set ups between work areas.
- Running ventilation, lines and leads to work area.
- Assist welders adjusting machine settings.
- Operating electric grinders, and pneumatic tools.
- Maintaining tools clean.

Education / Experience Required:
- Highschool diploma or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of welding process
- Basic reading and writing skills.
- Comfortable working in elevated surfaces
- Comfortable working in enclosed areas
- Must be U.S. Person (as defined by International Traffic in Arms Regulations ("ITAR," 22 CFR 120-130)
- Prior welding experience preferred.
- Fluency in Spanish as a spoken language highly preferred.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position requires 40+ hours of work per week. M-F 0600 - 1430 (or as otherwise assigned by Foreman) with pre-scheduled overtime as needed.
Work Environment: This job operates in a shipyard work environment.
Travel: This position requires the ability to travel.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be available to work at heights, confined spaces and have ability to climb staircases and ladders of varying sizes. May involve carrying objects that weigh up to 50 lbs., frequent stooping, bending, crawling, reaching, and walking.

- Completion of a satisfactory background check
- Passing a drug test and physical examination
- Eligibility to work in the US.
- Obtaining DBIDS level security clearance.
