Position Summary
The General Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, inspecting and performing preventative maintenance and minor repairs to domestic water distribution systems, medical gas systems, fire extinguishing systems, HVAC systems and associated mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment of the facilities physical plant. This position requires the individual to perform repair and maintenance functions in patient rooms, offices, and other assigned areas of the hospital, as well as floating to support off site Hospital owned properties.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
1. Performs repairs and maintenance on medical gas outlets and alarm panels including changing "O" rings on outlets and checking and resetting alarm panels.
2. Performs repairs and maintenance tasks on mechanical, electrical and hydraulic equipment, including hospital beds, gurneys, wheelchairs and other minor equipment.
3. Performs repairs and maintenance on fire extinguishing systems including fire extinguishers, fire hoses and cabinets and resetting of fire alarm panels.
4. Perform basic repairs/maintenance on electrical systems to including checking outlets for power, resetting breakers in electrical panels and performing visual safety checks. Provides daily replacement of lamps and bulbs where required.
5. Performs basic repairs and maintenance on HVAC systems including adjusting thermostats and checking room temperatures and air handler outlet temperatures. Performs basic repairs and maintenance on electrical systems to including checking outlets for power, resetting breakers in electrical panels and performing visual safety checks.
6. Performs repairs and maintenance on plumbing faucets, flush valves and P-trap assemblies, including changing washers, diaphragms, vacuum breakers and drain seals. Clears clogged drains and toilets throughout the facility.
7. Performs and documents all assigned Corrective Work Orders and Preventive Maintenance actions. Perform and document routine rounds and readings. Document all unusual and routine activities in the Daily Journal. Maintain parts and material inventories
8. Use various drills, saws and other hand and power tools using approved safety measures.
9. Responds promptly to Code Reds, Code 99's and Disaster Codes. Identifies locations of all main utility shut offs for building services inside and outside of the Central Plant.
10. Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting all team members outside of specialty area as needed.
*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. • 2+ years of training and/or experience in general maintenance activities.
• Bilingual English and Spanish is preferred.
• Hospital experience is preferred.
Education/Licensure/Certification:
• A valid California driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance (California minimum) is preferred.
