Overview
The Nexus team has an opportunity for a GIS Analyst. The GIS Analyst is responsible GIS database management, map creation, spatial analysis, and supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of the asset management plan and capital plan. The GIS Analyst provides company employees with easy access to accurate and useful information about the company's assets and provide tools that improve productivity. It maintains the utility's spatial data (pipes, valves, hydrants, easements, etc.) using a Geographical Information System (GIS) to support the company's departments.
Work Location and Schedule
This position will be primarily based at our office in Reno, NV . Minimum 3 days per week, with up to 2 days of work-from-home.
What You'll Do
- Develops, collects, maintains, organizes, and distributes accurate data to support the planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and evaluation of water and wastewater systems, utilizing the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Provides daily user support including routine troubleshooting and system and data maintenance for asset data analysis, working closely with Information Technology to evaluate responsibility for addressing specific requests.
- Provides input to the business unit on system needs, the performance of asset data software and hardware, and improvements to the asset data analysis system.
- Performs quality control / quality assurance (QA/QC) checks of asset data to ensure the accuracy of all data within the system.
- Supports Operations Management in the development of asset management planning and capital planning.
- Supports the Director of Capital Planning & Asset Management and collaborates with the Compliance Manager, in the development, implementation, and revision of asset maintenance-related policies and procedures.
- Compiles, evaluates, and maintains GPS data.
- Maintains and updates GIS-related databases and system mapping through collaboration with Operations Management and Operations Staff.
- Creates maps for both business unit and external stakeholders.
- Reviews and analyzes GIS data and maps for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensures all work conforms to local, state, and federal governmental requirements or recommendations.
- Performs relevant and appropriate in-house GIS-related training and technical assistance for the business unit.
- Assists with the establishment and maintenance of user profiles within the CMMS.
- Assists in creating monthly and annual reports.
- Contacts vendors to resolve technical problems, as necessary.
- Writes and maintains technical documentation to support new and existing GIS applications, including maintenance procedures and standards.
- Maintains inventory of GIS system hardware and software.
- Maintains professional networks and attends training sessions and conferences, as necessary, to advance skills and keep abreast of issues and practices in all areas of responsibility.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and consultants.
- Recommend opportunities to improve the operational and financial performance of the business unit.
- Manages all GIS-related contracts and agreements for the business unit. Ensures all work complies with all relevant and appropriate federal, state, and local legal and other obligations.
What You'll Bring
Experience
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience with ArcGIS and CMMS
- Certificate of Completion of a formal course of instruction in the use of ARCGIS equipment and software from certified college or university, similar to GISP
Nice to Have
- Bachelor's degree in GIS Analysis/Geography/Civil or Environmental Engineering/Computer Science/Cartography/Remote sensing or related field preferred.
- Technical certification for ArcGIS Server Site Configuration and Administration or equivalent experience is desirable

- Experience with GIS, database and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) / Bentley products (Micro station, Bentley Map, Bentley Water) and FME software required. Experience with field deployment of GIS is highly desirable.
- Ability to interpret and write complex Structured Query Language (SQL) queries. Skilled in database administration of MS SQL database and proficient in SQL database backup and restore.
- Experience in designing and development of web-based applications using ArcGIS Server 10.3 and higher using ArcGIS API for Java script and JQUERY. Experience in Python script.
- Effective verbal and written communication including via engineering drawings and sketches to ensure that requirements are understood by both parties and expectations such as schedule and scope are clearly defined.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with teams and ability to issue and receive oral and written instructions.
- Demonstrates professionalism and courtesy and favorable customer and public relations.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint, as well as Windows Explorer.
