Geomatics Survey Equipment Operator - VHB

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s MetroDC (Washington, DC and Tysons, VA) office is seeking a Geomatics Survey Equipment Operator to join our team.

Responsibilities

• Operation, transport and setup of laser scanners, robotic total stations, data collectors, GPS, and other reality capture and land surveying equipment
• Land surveying including boundary line, topographic survey, construction stakeout and utility surveys
• Reality Capture activities, including UAV flights, photogrammetry, and laser scanning
• Reconnaissance and recovery of land surveying markers through use of hand tools and digging
• Construction stakeout of proposed improvements, including installation of stakes through use of sledgehammers and hand tools
• Operation and maintenance of surveying equipment 
• Documenting all phases of survey work through clear field notes and data collection

Skills and Attributes

• Proficient in reading, understanding, and evaluating the significance of survey, right-of-way, engineering, and architectural drawings with respect to each survey project
• Ability to learn the proper use of GPS equipment and Robotic Instruments and mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry
• Ability to learn and understand the basics of boundary, topographic, construction, and utility surveys
• Able to think critically
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with survey staff and clients

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• 0-1 year of experience using standard survey equipment (i.e. RTK GPS, total station, levels)
• Valid driver’s license 
• Laser scanning experience is a plus
• Must be willing to travel and stay overnight for assignments outside local area (anticipated to be less than 15% of assignments)
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position, located in Washington, DC is $20/hr-$25/hr. The final compensation is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
