Cabot Corporation is seeking a Global Market Segment Manager to join the New Growth Initiatives team within the Carbon Silica Technologies Business Unit in Billerica, MA. The Global Market Segment Manager will lead the organization in identifying and capitalizing on organic growth opportunities in new markets to Cabot.
This is a high visibility marketing management role where the person’s primary responsibilities will be in identifying priority areas for growth, aligning with your R&D partner and key stakeholders, then executing to achieve results by defining, developing and commercializing new products and new market development programs.
The role involves ownership from idea inception through to commercial launch and ensuring successful customer adoption, including: scouting, building opportunity pipelines, working with regional commercial and technical teams, defining products/market development programs, leading stage-gate reviews to gain support and resources to commercialize offering, then executing to achieve profitable growth by developing compelling value propositions, sales and marketing tools, and promotional tactics to build awareness and reach, and working with regional commercial teams to ensure successful customer adoption.
Some international travel is to be expected to partner with regional marketing and technical managers, visit customers, and prioritize growth initiatives.
This position is eligible to participate in Cabot’s Flexible Working Arrangement (hybrid) program and reports directly to the Global Market Segment Manager.
How You Will Make an Impact:- Identifying strategic projects to work on to drive growth and lead project execution with cross-functional teams, including marketing, applications development, R&D, and regional teams
- Developing and accessing new business opportunities, sometimes starting with only an idea or concept
- Managing the new market/product development pipeline for the market segment using a stage-gate process
- Providing project leadership to Sales, R&D, Manufacturing, and Finance in the development and implementation of plans and strategies to ensure successful commercialization of new programs and products
- Developing and delivering business plans for specific market segment opportunities
- Quantifying potential market segment sizes and value, customer needs, existing and potential competitive situations, technical feasibility, and other critical success factors
- Evaluating potential new products against market opportunities/challenges and compatibility with Cabot’s strengths and business strategies
- Assessing Cabot’s strengths and weaknesses relative to the market segment needs to determine business opportunities for market segment growth and expansion into new market segments
- Identifying and developing potential internal and external strategic partners in development of these opportunities
- Collecting and analyzing market and/or customer validation data that can support decisions regarding continuation or withdrawal from specific opportunities or ventures
- Determining, assessing, and understanding the tradeoffs of various approaches
- Critically reviewing progress against plan to continuously assess commercial potential, making adjustments as necessary in order to assure optimal profitability
- Researching, analyzing, and reporting industry trends and data that impact business’ volume, margins, utilization, and market share
- Communicating the status of projects to cross-functional teams
- Establishing strategic priorities for intellectual property, along with R&D, to support segment initiatives
- Bachelor’s degree is required (a technical or scientific discipline is preferred), MBA preferred
- 5+ years of relevant marketing experience including marketing and project management experience (i.e. product management, commercialization, driving revenue growth, identifying and capitalizing on organic growth opportunities, etc.)
- Global organization experience is preferred
- Experience in business-to-business chemical, industrial, or manufacturing industries preferred
- Experience communicating complex technology and technical applications information in easy-to-understand language to facilitate stakeholder understanding and decision-making

- Business Savvy: Knowledgeable about all functional elements which are important for business profitability; understands key economic drivers and their effect on business
- Project Ownership & Management:Ability to take ownership for ensuring the desired outcome of a project and to establish and monitor the project milestones toward the objective
- Organizational engagement:Ability to work in close alignment with people from other functions and countries and to influence and engage with others to address issues, resolve conflicts and ensure the best overall outcome
- Technical/Application Knowledge:Knowledgeable about Cabot’s technical capabilities, the applications in which our products are used, and how they impact the performance of customers’ products in downstream applications
