About the Job
As the Product Owner for Search Enablement, you will be pivotal in ensuring effective retrieval and accessibility of BCG’s core knowledge materials, cases, and internal data. Additionally, you will contribute to BCG’s generative AI transformation. You will lead a team of 10 developers, quality analysts, and product analysts in an agile environment, developing infrastructure that facilitates content synthesis and knowledge discovery. You will be responsible for at least three major data sources within your remit. Our goal is to enhance our offerings with advanced tools and technologies to deliver top-tier search, chat, and other knowledge discovery solutions throughout BCG. The overall portfolio consists of 11 squads and multiple COEs such as Agile, UX/UI, Change & Communications, and Data Science. To achieve transformation and enterprise scalability, we must revolutionize our products, experiences, processes, technology, and operational methods. We seek individuals with strong critical thinking skills who are passionate about generative AI, information retrieval, and innovation.
To drive this transformation, we need Product Owners in leadership roles who are customer-centric and enjoy collaborating with cross-functional teams to design and deliver exceptional products. These individuals will take complete ownership of Squad goals, product roadmaps, and delivering value. As a Product Owner, you will lead a Squad, manage multiple work streams and collaborate directly with team members to prioritize and schedule tasks. It is essential to work with Squad members without having direct line management authority over them, embodying a servant-leader approach. You will closely coordinate with your Chapter Lead Product Owner to stay aligned with the business goals set by our Portfolio Lead and ensure your Squad is progressing towards these objectives. Representing the voice of the customer, you will ensure Squad members understand the product vision and users’ needs and preferences. You will own and prioritize the backlog of user stories that guide your Squad's work, and be responsible for supporting and motivating your team members.
Among your responsibilities, you will:
- Drive Tribe, squad and product initiatives
- Oversee and manage the implementation of advanced search capabilities, committing to high standards of retrieval accuracy
- Problem-solve with technical colleagues on indexing, parsing, and chunking methods for optimized downstream generative AI capabilities
- Collaborate with end-users and senior stakeholders across BCG’s Practice Areas to gather feedback and continuously enhance search quality
- Manage backend databases (e.g., Elastic, Sinequa etc.) in collaboration with the development team to maintain and optimize performance and costs
- Manage BCG’s taxonomies/ontologies in the context of BCG’s knowledge search and retrieval; work closely with cross-functional teams to update taxonomies based on business needs
- Deliver business results and customer value
- Ensure that the product is built in an incremental way, releasing new working features at the end of each sprint and creating value for the business
- Track product performance and Recruiting function feedback to inform future work
- Deliver on specific and measurable OKRS and KPIs to be defined for your Squad
- Manage relevant product budget process and support the Tribe Lead in engaging with the funding process
- Serve as the voice of customer or end-user
- Translate the voice and needs of customer into user stories, engaging users, stakeholders and cross-functional product teams as needed
- Engage in continuous discovery (e.g., via surveys & interviews) to understand customer needs
- Leverage empirical and qualitative data to assess feature performance and inform prioritization
- Determine tradeoffs involving customer value, cost, and speed to execution
- Represent customer needs to ensure they are understood and integrated into the Squad’s work
- Proactively seek customer feedback to learn and better understand their needs and requirements
- Facilitate product demos to empower Squad members with real-time feedback from customers & stakeholders
- Oversee what is delivered by the Squad and when
- Own upstream / downstream impact to other products to proactively manage dependencies, and prioritize most critical priorities
- Ensure that our products meet latest enterprise architecture requirements
- Seek the most cost-effective route to delivery, especially through PoCs for discovery
- Prioritize work through a well-organized backlog of user stories and clearly communicate what needs to be done and by when
- Define and clearly communicate acceptance criteria for output based on business & customer needs
- Support and enable the Squad to get its work done
- Deploy best Agile practices to manage team workload and deliver commitments on-time and on-budget
- Regularly engage with the Squad through Agile ceremonies to offer feedback on work-in-progress and clarify requirements
- Engage with Chapter Leads regarding resourcing and functional expertise required in Squad
- Provide feedback as part of performance management of Squad members and other members of the Tribe
- Set an overall vision to direct and inform the Squad’s work
- Work closely with the Chapter Lead Product Owner and Portfolio Lead to understand and drive alignment on the Portfolio’s business strategy, goals, and objectives
- Translate Portfolio objectives and Knowledge functional input into a clear vision (e.g., via OKRs, KPIs, sprint goals) for your Squad to inform the creation and prioritization of the Squad's backlog of work
- Share information about the Squad’s output and priorities with other Product Owners to ensure alignment across the organization
- Enable the organization’s new way of working
- Model behaviors to support the organization’s transformation to a new way of working
- Actively create and maintain a Squad culture based on the organization and Agile behaviors
- Provide informal and formal feedback within context of larger performance management system
