About the Job
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Maintenance Technician to join our team at our meat processing facility. In this role, your primary responsibility is to ensure the optimal functioning and compliance of our facility and meat processing machinery, adhering strictly to USDA guidelines and sanitation standards. Your duties will encompass routine inspections, timely repairs, preventive maintenance, and adherence to strict cleaning schedules to maintain hygiene and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspecting Equipment and Facility: Regularly inspect buildings, processing equipment, refrigeration units, and systems to identify any issues, ensuring compliance with USDA regulations.
- Repair and Maintenance: Repair malfunctioning equipment, including meat grinders, slicers, packaging machines, and damaged facility structures to minimize downtime.
- Preventative Maintenance: Develop and implement preventative maintenance procedures for meat processing machinery and facility systems, including electrical and hydraulic systems.
- Sanitation and Cleaning Schedules: Follow and enforce strict cleaning and sanitation schedules in accordance with USDA guidelines to maintain a safe and sanitary work environment.
- Compliance Management: Ensure all equipment and processes meet USDA guidelines for safety and sanitation, performing periodic quality checks to ensure standards are maintained.
- Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing Systems: Manage and maintain HVAC, refrigeration, and plumbing systems to guarantee optimal functionality and temperature control.
- Scheduling and Planning Repairs: Plan and schedule repairs, minimizing disruption to production schedules.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed inventory records for equipment and supplies, and document all maintenance activities in line with USDA regulations.
- Emergency Response: Quickly respond to urgent maintenance requests and emergency situations, including power outages, equipment malfunctions, and leaks.
- Training and Supervision: Assist in training staff on equipment operation and safety protocols, including proper sanitation practices.
- Budget Management: Help develop and manage the maintenance department budget, focusing on cost-effective repairs and maintenance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Certificate in HVAC, building maintenance, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in a maintenance role within a food processing or industrial setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and meat processing systems.
- Advanced understanding of general maintenance procedures, including compliance with USDA guidelines and sanitation standards.
- Physically capable and available to work overtime, including weekends, public holidays, and evenings.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Well-organized, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
