Position: Accountant II
(Municipality-Government Accounting)
Pay: $41.54 - $50.71 per hour
Schedule:
Onsite Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Join our dedicated team and play a crucial role in managing the financial integrity of our clients city. As an Accountant specializing in government accounting, you will ensure that fiscal transactions comply with city codes, ordinances, and state and federal requirements. Your expertise will be instrumental in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the financial health of our municipality.
The essential tasks for this position include:
- Analyzing fiscal transactions to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting procedures and practices.
- Classifying transactions and evaluating their impact on assets, liabilities, and reserves, including cash flow analysis.
- Assisting in fixed asset accounting and maintaining records for tax or state controller, county auditor reports, and providing statistics for capital and operating budgets.
- Collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and documenting fiscal and operating data, and preparing or assisting in the preparation of financial statements and reports.
- Preparing and reviewing records of accounts receivable, accounts payable, expenditures, and income, ensuring conformity with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Auditing financial records of city departments, noting discrepancies, and filing reports and recommendations to address any deficiencies.
- Preparing journal entries and entering them into an automated financial system.
- Preparing annual sales tax reports and auditing cash receipts.
- Maintaining the chart of accounts and cash reconciliation.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.
- Three years of professional accounting experience.
Knowledge of:
- Modern accounting and auditing principles and practices, including governmental accounting.
- Applications and principles of data processing and automated accounting systems.
- Office methods, systems, routines, and procedures.
- Governmental budgeting processes, controls, and systems.
- Generally accepted accounting principles.
- Principles and practices of financial administration, including budgeting and reporting.
- Supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
- Complex financial reports and analysis.
Skills and Abilities:
- Analyze, interpret, and explain financial policies and procedures and municipal tax laws.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate professional, technical, and clerical personnel.
- Maintain an effective working relationship with the public, fellow employees, and other city departments.
- Prepare clear, concise, complete, and accurate financial statements, schedules, and reports.
- Establish and maintain fiscal records, accounts, and procedures.
