Kheir Center is seeking a highly organized, motivated, self‐directed Grant Writer / Development Specialist for our growing nonprofit organization. Kheir is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that provides comprehensive, high‐quality healthcare and human services at low or no cost to the underserved and uninsured residents of Los Angeles. The organization currently operates five sites, and serves more than 12,000 individuals through 85,000 clinic visits annually. The Grant Writer / Development Specialist position is a great opportunity to support LA’s underserved community through a variety of projects and responsibilities in the areas of fundraising, public relations, social media, advocacy, and event planning. This person will have a broad range of duties that contribute to the increased awareness of Kheir and revenue generation for the organization. This person must be able to work independently on grant proposals and reports, and will be responsible for meeting both submission and award targets for proposals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Research, develop, and sustain traditional and creative fundraising strategies and programs.
- Write grant proposals, LOIs, reports, budgets, and funder correspondences with limited supervision.
- Collaborate with leadership on short‐term and long‐term development planning, including operating plans, budgets, and revenue projections.
- Drive annual plans for development activities, with special emphasis on corporate and foundation support and grants.
- Develop effective working relationships with donors, Board Members, volunteers, government and foundation representatives and others to nurture their connection to the organization.
- Identify potential sources of funding and revenue.
- Coordinate efforts of key staff members to ensure that documents are completed by the specified deadlines for grant proposals.
- Track and monitor proposals, their deadlines, and requirements.
- Update, record and maintain electronic and hard copy client, donor, and administrative filing system and database. Acknowledge donations and gifts.
- Use various data sources to run reports and write summaries of results for internal and external use (grant applications and reports, public relations pieces, etc).
- Prepare long term and short term projects, reports, correspondence, and other materials, following established guidelines and procedures with limited supervision.
- Coordinate special projects and new program development to promote increased awareness of Kheir in the community and among potential and existing donors.
- Research on up‐to‐date healthcare issues and policies to incorporate into grant‐writing and public relations materials.
- Support the organization’s advocacy efforts and government affairs projects, including writing and requesting letters of support, collaborating with local elected officials’ offices, staying abreast of pending and passed legislation affecting Kheir’s services, participating in collaborative efforts to promote relevant legislation, etc.
- Write & prepare PR materials, including reports, fact sheets, newsletters, press releases, and donor & media packets.
- Develop and post content on Kheir’s social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
- Plan and execute fundraising and public relations events (both independently and as part of a team), including the organization’s annual fundraising dinner, donor receptions, press conferences, site visits with special guests, and selected community and outreach events for patients.
- Support the development of selected marketing collateral, including mass mailings to donors, partners, and community members.
- Greet guests, provide tours, organize meetings and fulfill other hospitality duties for special guests as needed.
- Provide general development and related administrative support as needed.
- Other additional duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Minimum 2 years of grant writing experience.
- Experience with HRSA or other federal grants preferred, but not required.
- Exceptional attention to detail & accuracy, including proofreading skills.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to write grants from concept, LOI, to full proposal.
- Must have experience with developing and finalizing grant budgets.
- Must be extremely proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to efficiently prioritize duties and multi‐task in a fast‐paced environment.
- High energy level and ability to work effectively with a team.
- Must show initiative, be self‐motivated, and have a strong work ethic.
- Commitment to producing accurate, organized and high‐quality work.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow and provide detailed instructions.
- Strong sense of judgment, discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Completion of DOJ background check.
- Must have a valid CA Driver’s License, auto insurance, current vehicle registration with clean records & everyday access to a reliable vehicle.
- Must be available for occasional evening and weekend events.
