Overview:Title: Group Leader
Reports To: After School Coordinator, Bushwick Leaders High School
Location: 797 Bushwick Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11221
Hours: 20 hrs per week; Non Exempt, 10 Months
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 2pm - 6pm EST
Salary: $17/hr - $18/hr
Job Summary: The Group Leader is responsible for the overall development, management, and organization and planning of his or her youth group. In addition, the Group Leader is responsible for the supervision of all young people assigned to their group.
Major Duties:
- Help recruit and retain youth participants.
- Attend all staff meetings and mandatory training.
- Supervise and monitor children and take daily attendance.
- Support Activity Specialist during group activities.
- Supervise transitions between activities and dismissal.
- Maintain strict adherence to policies and procedures at all times.
- Ensure classrooms and after school spaces are kept neat and orderly.
- Provide direction, supervision and guidance to participants at all times.
- Engage in outreach activities to ensure attendance and participation.
- Engage in interaction with parents and guardians in a professional, fair and gentle manner.
- Discuss behavior problems and situations with the supervisor as they emerge.
- Resolve conflict within your group while seeking assistance from other staff, supervisors and directors when necessary.
- Inspect all facilities, equipment, and supplies and be sure all are locked away securely at the end of each day.
- Participate in staff orientation as well as ongoing development activities.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings.
- Participate in all after school events including Field trips as needed.
- Engage in program evaluation and continuous improvement discussions to strengthen operations and execute a high quality program.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High School Graduate or GED and at least 2 years related experience in youth development programs required.
- Experience having lead youth group activities required.
- A commitment to working with youth from a variety of backgrounds, while providing high quality services.
- A commitment to work from a strength based and/or youth development perspective.
- Ability to commit to the full schedule listed above.
- Energetic, motivated self-starter and a team player
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
