The HME Supervisor at Give Home Medical Equipment will lead the Home Medical Equipment (HME) team, ensuring the delivery, setup, and fitting of durable medical equipment (DME) and home medical equipment (HME) for patients. This role requires strong clinical expertise, with a preference for candidates holding a Respiratory Therapist license or similar qualifications. The HME Supervisor, reporting directly to the Executive Director, will oversee the daily operations of the HME team, ensuring compliance with clinical standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies. Additionally, this role integrates administrative, clinical, and financial aspects of the organization's care and services. The HME Supervisor will be responsible for handling recruitment, training, and ongoing development, as well as collaborating with other departments to ensure quality patient care and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the daily operations of the HME team, ensuring timely and accurate delivery, fitting, and setup of DME/HME equipment to meet patient needs.
- Oversee the recruitment, training, and professional development of HME Specialists, ensuring that all team members possess knowledge of equipment and patient care standards.
- Provide clinical expertise in the setup and fitting of medical equipment, such as oxygen concentrators, wheelchairs, and other DME products, ensuring patient safety and satisfaction.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including documentation and record-keeping standards related to DME/HME services.
- Participate in the development and implementation of patient service protocols that ensure high levels of patient satisfaction and adherence to clinical best practices.
- Collaborate with referring organizations, billing, and warehouse teams to ensure accurate equipment delivery, documentation, and reimbursement processes.
- Participate in the development of annual market assessments, budgets, and business plans to support growth and service expansion.
- Conduct staff meetings, case conferences, and surveys to ensure communication and quality of service, as well as compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Manage patient assessments, ensuring documentation meets reimbursement requirements, and oversee patient care planning.
- Monitor staff schedules, matching staff to patients based on individual needs and ensuring efficient service delivery.
- Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives and e-learning programs to enhance team performance and service delivery.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations for HME Specialists and provide feedback on areas for improvement and professional development.
- Collaborate with Warehouse Manager to ensure all equipment is properly sanitized, maintained, and stored, in line with safety and regulatory guidelines.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field preferred. Respiratory Therapist license or similar clinical qualification strongly desired.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the HME/DME field, with hands-on experience fitting and setting up medical equipment for patients.
- Proven experience in supervising a team, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and staff development.
- Strong knowledge of the clinical applications and uses of HME/DME products, and the ability to train others in the proper setup and use of this equipment.
- Experience with ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, and other federal, state, and local laws.
- Experience with sales, marketing, budgeting, and business planning, particularly related to DME/HME operations.
- Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality patient service, with a compassionate, patient-centered approach.
- Proficiency in using inventory management systems, patient documentation software, and other technology tools for operational efficiency.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for effectively interacting with staff, patients, referral sources, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment, resolve patient issues, and manage operational challenges efficiently.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in both office and warehouse settings. Occasional use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves and respiratory protection may be required.
