We are seeking an experienced HORIZONTAL QA Construction Inspector for a full-time position located in our San Antonio, Texas office.
Typical Job Responsibilities:
- Read, understand and interpret all project documents including plans, specifications and other project documents.
- Monitor the work in progress for conformance with plans and specification including FAA requirements (i.e., Advisory Circulars).
- Document deficiencies and deviations from plans.
- Recognize problems/issues, report, and facilitate resolution.
- Complete logs, forms and/or other methods of documenting and tracking progress of Contractor's work.
- Prepare daily reports and maintain an inspection diary.
- Take and maintain photographs to document all phases of construction.
- Review changes to work by direction of Engineer (e.g. via Request for Information process, work directives, change orders, etc.) and ensure compliance by Contractor.
- Collect, maintain and ensure completeness of material tickets, receipts, documents, etc.
- Assist in coordinating responses to RFIs and submittals.
- Coordinate scheduling of material testing for Quality Assurance to ensure all work meets project requirements.
- Monitor Contractor's Quality Control Plan and ensure compliance.
- Review Contractor's Quality Control Test Reports for compliance with project requirements.
- Inspect work to ensure compliance with requirements of Traffic Control Plans (TCPs), Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and Construction Safety and Phasing Plan (CSPP).
- Notify Contractor and document any deficiencies with above plans.
- Review field progress against project schedule and document/report variations.
- Review progress payment applications and make recommendations on accuracy for pay items.
- Perform calculations and document quantities of work in place for unit price contracts
- Attend and participate in weekly project status meetings.
- Assist Engineer with preparation of and resolution of items on Punch List.
- Monitor progress and ensure completeness of Contractor's As-Built drawings for project
- Perform other project duties as assigned by Project Manager.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
- 8-10+ years' experience in transportation and/or aviation construction inspections.
- Experience with DOT and/or FAA specifications and construction standards.
- Proficient in the use of computers and software programs (E-mail, Word, Excel).
- Ability to effectively communicate through verbal and written correspondence.
- Ability to effectively communicate with Project Manager, Contractor, Authorities Having Jurisdiction and Owner.
Other Requirements:
- Work in inclement weather (hot/cold/rain)
- Work non-standard hours/day, including some weekend and holiday work on occasion
- Experience with Airfield paving projects (preferred)
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Airfield Driver's License
- Ability to pass Federal background check for Airport Identification badge
Desired but Not Required Certifications:
- ACI Grade 1 (Must be able to obtain certification with 1-year of hire)
- Level 1B Asphalt Specialist (Must be able to obtain certification with 1-year of hire)
Pay Range: $90K-$115K DOE
Work Environment:
- The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving machinery & mechanical parts, uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to loud noise, and outside weather conditions.
- The physical requirements must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Intermittent unassisted sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, stooping, crawling, pushing and lifting is required. Must be able to walk and/or stand for prolonged periods of time for at least eight hours per day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move light equipment up to 50 pounds without assistance. Must be alert to equipment in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, ability to walk on uneven ground while physically maneuvering construction sites, ability to work in extreme temperatures or humidity, and potentially work at heights.
- Possession of a valid state of residence driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Daily travel to and from construction sites, generally within 100 miles from the home office is expected. Short term, out of town, assignments may be required. Long term, out of town, assignments may be required, with advance notice of planned dates.
- May be required to work protracted and irregular hours to meet client's needs, including nights, overtime and weekends.
