Position Overview
The HR Business Partner provides human resources consultation and support to multiple designated business units, advising on the application of policies and defining and executing HR strategies that enable accomplishment of business unit objectives that align with university culture, while ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration or related field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in HR or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
*Knowledge of the principles and practices of human resources management; of human resources programs such as employee relations, compensation, classification, employment, benefits, workers’ compensation, or organizational development; and of federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing personnel activities.
*Skill in oral and written communication, in conducting interviews, in using computers and human resources related software applications, in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing, and in problem solving.
*Ability to explain policies and procedures to staff and the public; to maintain confidential and sensitive information; to develop and analyze human resource processes; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with applicants, employees, and the general public; to communicate effectively; and to plan, assign, and/or guide the work of others.
*Skill in using office computer information systems to organize, store, manipulate and retrieve data.
*Critical thinking skills.
*Ability to plan, organize and effectively manage multiple assignments.
*Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
*Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequently changing priorities.
*Focused on providing a high level of customer service and follow-through.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
*Master’s degree in human resources or a related field.
*PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP Certification.
*Higher Education experience.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Job Duties:
- Partners with university departments, divisions, managers and employees on a wide variety of HR issues, mainly focused on employee relations, as well as policy, performance, compliance, compensation, professional development, and institutional effectiveness measures.
- Offers professional counsel, advice and service to university constituents to help facilitate the success of the mission, vision and values.
- Interprets and coaches on effective problem resolution using constructive strategies such as coaching, mediation, progressive discipline or grievance processes that support relationships.
- Researches and analyzes innovative HR practices. Assists in special projects by researching, compiling and analyzing human resource information.
- Provides proactive communication, education and training on current HR issues, policies and procedures. Partners with those in assigned departments to facilitate constructive change and implement new or improved programs.
- Provides exceptional customer service and support related to all employee relations, development and success. In partnership with others, provides advice, interpretation, teaching and counsel to employees and supervisors to support success.
- Conducts workplace investigations following best practices and prepares well-written investigative reports making final determinations and communicating findings to all involved parties.
- Maintains an effective level of business acumen, institutional knowledge and literacy regarding business units, including core business, culture, and short- and long-range plans.
