About the Job
Minimum Work Experience Three years of experience in an office setting, preferably with at least a year in a human resources or payroll department.
Required Skills Competency in office skills, including proficiency with office equipment such as computer, calculator, copier, and FAX machine.
Individual should be able to exercise sound judgment, be able to plan, be well organized, have excellent oral and written communications skills, work well under pressure, take the initiative, and be flexible and cooperative. The individual should also be accurate, timely, and respect confidentiality concerning employee information and company records.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs general clerical duties of the personnel department including the following:Maintains up-to date employment records on hourly factory personnel;Schedules physical exams for hourly factory personnel and key executives according to schedule;Prepares employment reports for internal and external distribution.
Provides support and assistance with the recruitment and hiring functions of the department:Prescreens applicants for factory positions by reviewing applications, conducting preliminary interviews, and making recommendations to supervisors;Maintains records of job openings and applications received in accordance with federal law;Ensures that pre-employment physicals and required paperwork are completed prior to actual hire.
Assists in maintaining a comprehensive safety program by the following:Prepares illness and injury reports for internal use, workers' comp, training, and other required records;Follows up on medical treatment for workers' comp cases and the status of employees regarding return to work.
Performs the following duties pertaining to the labor relations function:Keeps record of work assignments and staffing changes, including layoffs, recalls, and leaves of absence (including FMLA leave.);Posts job openings internally and places outside job notices with newspapers and state employment service as directed.
Assists the human resources manager in administering wage and salary policies:Notifies supervisors of scheduled performance reviews and processes reports for personnel files;Notifies the payroll department of rate changes.
Assists with employee benefits:Enrolls employees for medical and dental programs, life and disability insurance, notifies payroll department of changes in deductions, and provides information about provisions of alternative benefit packages.
Participates in employee training programs:Conducts new employee orientation sessions;Assists supervisors in job training as requested;Participates in sexual harassment training.
Facilitates employees' participation in charitable matching gift program, and in setting up payroll deductions for United Way contributions.
