About the Job
The general role of the HVAC/R Technician I is to perform repairs, maintenance, and installations on a wide variety of commercial, industrial, and some residential HVAC/R equipment. This position will provide quality customer service and perform minor electrical and plumbing or piping repairs and installation work.
This individual will have a thorough understanding of all aspects of HVAC/R work and must be proficient with the products and services offered by Beitzel Corporation. This position will require a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional travel with overnight stays.
What You'll Do:- Perform troubleshooting, installations, repairs, maintenance, and retrofits to a variety of equipment, including but not limited to commercial, industrial, and residential air conditioning, refrigeration, electric motors, heating units, heat pumps, compressors, furnaces, boilers, burners, intake and exhaust fans, economizers, humidifiers, and control systems
- Perform basic troubleshooting with electrical and plumbing applications
- Provide quality customer service while performing duties in the field
- Communicate with customers to foster trust and keep them informed during the process
- Assist with identifying new business opportunities and communicate covered services to customers
- Learn to identify changes to the scope of work
- Follow proper safety and incident reporting procedures at all times
- Foster confidence with customers and maintain repeat business
- Ensure that all work performed meets or exceeds applicable codes, standards, and best practices
- Utilize hand tools and power tools safely and effectively
- Provide detailed paperwork and documentation to ensure accurate record keeping, billing and inventory
- Maintain inventory to ensure availability of essential parts, materials, tools, and equipment
- Assist with ordering specialty parts to include providing information on part specs as needed
- Maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicles in a professional and workman-like manner
- Train and mentor HVAC/R Apprentices and provide feedback for performance reviews as requested
- Regularly walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms
- Sit, stand, and kneel for extended periods of time
- Work in extreme temperatures
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
- Perform duties on-site at industrial/commercial locations
- Work at heights to include ladders, lifts, and rooftops
- 0-3 year’s of experience in HVAC/R related work while holding a Journeyman or equivalent licensing
- Possess and maintain an active HVAC/R license, MD Journeyman preferred
- Possess a Universal EPA (Sect 608) Refrigerant and Recovery Certification required
- Possess a valid driver’s license required
- Ability and willingness to work both independently and in a team environment
- Aptitude for or experience in leadership preferred
- Proficient with basic hand and power tools
- Must have strong customer service skills and enjoy working with the public
- Must possess a mechanical aptitude
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations accurately
- Ability to read a tape measure and take accurate measurements
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Proficient with the materials, methods, equipment, and tools involved in the installation, repair, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems
- Experience with problem solving based on general physics, the refrigeration cycle and electrical circuit theory
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
- Willing to learn and expand skillset and certifications
- Ability to use mobile technology to complete documentation and reports in the field
- Proficient with personal computers to include software such as Microsoft Office, etc.
- Ability to act in a professional manner and follow work direction
- Must possess strong time management skills and follow dispatch and scheduled work
