About the Job
POSITION SUMMARY
The Head Filer is responsible for overseeing the filing room, machine alignments, and maintaining and repairing all saws, knives, and guides used in mill operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Comprehend and perform all duties in accordance with rules, regulations and JSAs.
- Lead and train filing room team members, including in all aspects of safety
- Manage saw quality system.
- Shares responsibility for correct lumber sizes
- Manage the maintenance of all filing room equipment.
- Manage the filling room budget
- Orders parts and maintain inventory.
- . Operate all filling room equipment.
- Operate all sawing machine centers when needed
- Ensure proper alignment of machine centers.
- Pour babbitt for guides and cut to proper size.
- Maintain a production level work pace
- Other duties as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED.
- 5+ years of experience in saw filing and qualified to perform all aspects of saw maintenance.
- Skills:
- Ability to run all sawing machine centers
- Ability to run all filling room equipment.
- Ability to use and read precision measurement devices.
- Self-motivated, ability to work without close supervision
- Ability to pass a drug and alcohol test, post-offer pre-employment physical, and background check.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of experience in saw filing and qualified to perform all aspects of saw maintenance.
- Experience supervising a team of employees
- Completion of entire saw filer apprenticeship program requirements
- Valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to sit and/or stand for shift, reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat, bend at the waist, kneel, walk varying distance, and climb stairs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to tolerate all weather elements, loud conditions, airborne particles (sawdust).

Maintenance
