Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Heavy Civil team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating heavy construction machinery, including but not limited to excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, and backhoes, to assist in the completion of large-scale infrastructure and earthmoving projects. The operator must ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance with project specifications and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate Heavy Machinery: Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment such as bulldozers, loaders, graders, excavators, and other related machinery.
- Site Preparation: Clear land, dig trenches, move earth, and assist with grading for construction sites in preparation for infrastructure projects like roads, bridges, and other civil works.
- Equipment Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance of equipment. Report any mechanical issues to the maintenance team.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety guidelines, policies, and procedures. Operate machinery in accordance with company safety protocols and OSHA standards.
- Collaboration: Work closely with site foremen, engineers, and other crew members to ensure efficient workflow and project completion.
- Precision Work: Use GPS or manual controls for fine grading and excavation to meet project specifications and tolerances.
- Documentation: Complete daily logs of equipment operation and maintenance activities as required.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience operating heavy machinery in a heavy civil construction environment.
- Certification: Valid heavy equipment operator certification or equivalent. OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.
- Licenses: Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) may be required.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with civil construction practices, including excavation, grading, and trenching.
- Technical Skills: Ability to operate multiple types of heavy equipment and familiarity with GPS machine control systems.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work outdoors in various weather conditions, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
