Local to Morgantown WV - May work hybrid with part time from home but must be able to come to the NETL site for tours, overseeing work on systems, and respond to trouble calls. Must be able to respond to the site within four (4) hours.
Position Description:
We are seeking a technical and managerial HPC/AI/ML Group Manager to support our Computational Science and Engineering and High-Performance Computing programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for all facility activities to ensure that customer goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frames by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate managers.
The HPC/AI/ML Group Manager will plan and manage updates, upgrades, and O&M services for NETL's supercomputing & artificial intelligence / machine learning infrastructure providing NETL's research staff and their collaborators with access to mission critical, computational research platforms and state-of-the-art post processing and visualization capabilities. Also responsible for Scientific and Research LANs and supporting core and closet switches, PB-scale storage systems, advanced desktop computers, connections to research systems (e.g., SCADA and LCS systems) and user support.
The objective of this position is to maintain current equipment and to provide infrastructure planning support with the goal of improving and developing new capability and capacity. This includes, but is not limited to, scheduling of preventative maintenance, performing patching and upgrading of research software and systems, planning and implementing hardware/software refreshes/upgrades and, ensuring systems are prepared to enable disaster recovery if necessary.
Required Skills:
• Per Federal requirements candidates must be a US Citizen. Dual citizenship cannot be considered.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics or related field, or equivalent experience of one additional year in lieu of education and demonstrated superior performance in the field.
• 10+ years of experience of relative experience including managing research IT, including high performance computing (HPC) and the following skills:
o Leading a team of professionals to maintain current equipment and to provide infrastructure planning support with the goal of improving and developing new capability and capacity. This includes, but is not limited to, scheduling of preventative maintenance, performing patching, and upgrading of research software and systems, planning, and implementing hardware/software refreshes/upgrades and, ensuring systems are prepared to enable disaster recovery if necessary.
o Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of High-Performance Computing, Data management technologies and industry best practices.
o Determining responsibilities of assigned organization and staff positions to accomplish business objectives.
o Ensuring compliance and governance control protocols are followed.
o Reviewing production and operating reports and directing the resolution of operational and maintenance problems to minimize costs and prevent operational delays.
o Developing and maintaining business plans to include labor hours, operational/production costs, levels of service, maintenance, and provide guidance to the development of new concepts and customer interface.
o Providing guidance in the development of processes, including personnel requirements, material needs, subcontract requirements, facility needs, tooling and equipment needs.
o Working with researchers to develop requirements for future computational resources.
o Training and ensuring assigned employees are aware of and comply with company, and customer policies, procedures, and regulations.
o Providing technical expertise and guidance to teams, ensuring they have the necessary resources and support to drive up-time.

• Establishing operational/production and quality control standards, budget and cost controls, and obtaining data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered.
• Procuring advanced computational systems
• Leading a team in installation, startup, testing, and commissioning advanced computational systems
• Coordinating activities with other functions of the organization and suppliers to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.
• Creating and monitoring detailed Work Breakdown Structure and Associated Cost Plans
• Research/Science Annual Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP)
• Creating and managing Annual Preventative Maintenance Plan and Schedule
• Maintaining As-Built Documentation/Baseline
• Creating Research/Science Monthly Activities Report and Research Quarterly Status Report
• Managing and leading projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
• Working with 3rd party and vendors to provide software, hardware and services sources.

Pay Transparency
Maximus compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to job location, a candidate's education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value analysis including seniority and merit systems, as well as internal pay alignment. Annual salary is just one component of Maximus's total compensation package. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives as well as program-specific awards.
