Job Description Summary
Under direct supervision the histotechnologist performs routine and complex histologic procedures in accordance with established procedures. Performs grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and special stains, immunohistochemistry, and frozen sectioning on human tissue to produce microscopic slides submitted for pathologists’ review. Performs quality control on completed slides. Identifies problems that may affect diagnosis and results. Records observations from tests. Documents maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab. Complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety.Entity

Job Description
The Histotechnologist performs complex histological procedures used to prepare specimens of tissue for examination and analysis by a Pathologist. Performs grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, and both routine and multiple staining of samples. Performs quality control on completed slides. Identifies problems that may affect diagnosis and results. Records observations from tests. Documents maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab. Complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety. This position works on the MUSC Charleston campus, Day shift, Monday-Friday, rotating on-call nights and weekends (8:00 am - 9:00 pm).
Additional Job Description
Minimum Training and Education: A bachelor’s degree in histotechnology, biology or other related scientific discipline and histotechnologist HTL(ASCP) certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) or equivalent. A minimum of one year of clinical experience in a Histology laboratory.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: HTL(ASCP) certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) or equivalent.
