Position Summary:
This position reports to the CSM (Client Services Manager) and/or designated supervisor in accordance with Company policy and regulatory requirements. This position is synonymous with the positions of Companion, Housekeeper, Homemaker, and Chore Worker.
- Is knowledgeable of, interprets, and supports the philosophy, purpose, mission, goals, policies, and standards of the organization.
- Represents the company in a positive manner while creating an environment that fosters respect and courtesy for clients and other employees alike. Works within the company programs to promote safety and the well-being of all clients and employees.
- Provide general assistance and care to patient/clients in accordance with the non-personal care plan.
- Plans meals, purchases food and household supplies and prepares and serves nutritious meals in accordance with the non-personal care plan.
- Works to provide for a clean, safe, and orderly environment for the patient/client and family.
- Washes dishes, cleans the kitchen after meals, launders clothes, bed linens, and performs other housekeeping activities normally accomplished on a daily or weekly basis, in accordance with the non-personal care plan.
- Provides companionship for the patient/client as required.
- Medication reminders
- Performs other duties, such as transportation of the independent patient/client, when directed by the supervisor.
- Accurately and thoroughly documents services provided in accordance with agency policy on day services are rendered, submits in a timely manner.
- Immediately reports any changes in patient/client’s needs, condition, or incidents to the supervisor in a timely manner.
- Establishes and maintains effective communication and a professional relationship with patient/clients/families and co-workers participating in case conference as appropriate.
- Maintains and enhances skills through attending appropriate staff development programs.
- Appearance is professional and complies with agency dress code.
- Assignments are fulfilled with reliability and punctuality.
- Maintains a cooperative manner towards patient/client/family members of the healthcare team.
- Listens and responds to patient/client’s needs in a sensitive and timely manner either through own initiative as appropriate, or by referral to the supervisor.
- Assists the supervisor by providing feedback in regard to updating the non-personal care plan.
- Participates in Quality Assessment and Improvement activities as assigned. Communicates information that enables collection and root cause analysis of data to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Attends, participates in and/or conducts internal staff development programs, and obtains continuing education as required by Company policy, and regulation.
- Maintains and enhances clinical practice skills.
- Performs other duties as assigned in response to patient/client, office and/or facility needs.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of patient and employee information.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of Agency proprietary and business information.
- Reports for work on time and prepared to assume duties.
- Adheres to company dress code.
- Records work accurately and legibly.
- Follows policy for reporting in sick or absent.
- Schedules all time off with supervisory approval.
- Varies work schedules to meet Agency needs.
- Adheres to company policy, procedure, and processes.
- Responds to internal and external customers in a professional and friendly manner.
- Offers assistance as needed or directs individual to appropriate resources with proper follow through.
- Wears ID badge in a visible location, if required.
- Complies timely with all requirements related to risk management, safety, infection control, TB screening, security, and fire, as appropriate.
- Provides a safe environment for clients, employees, and others.
- Assumes responsibility for all mandatory in-services, certification, and/or licensure, competencies, etc.
- High school graduation or GED required.
- The candidate must have successfully completed a training program if required by regulation or contract.
- Two years’ experience in a similar position desired.
- Two years’ experience working with the elderly desired.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently
- Ability to work with minimal or close supervision.
- Must conduct all business with a professional manner and with a high level of confidentiality.
- Must pass competency testing on hire and ongoing for the basics of, but not limited to:
- Meal preparation, housekeeping, infection control, safety in the home, proper handling of emergencies, transportation, dog walking and care
- Must have an updated Android or iPhone smartphone device (see Aide visit/documentation requirements)
- Current listing with no substantial finding on state Aide Registry, as state appropriate, if applicable
- Work indoors for the majority of the work day (fluorescent lights, HVAC system, carpeted/vinyl flooring, normal housing noise levels).
- Provide a reliable means of transportation as required.
- Possess the physical ability to perform job-related duties which may require lifting, standing, bending, transferring, stooping, stretching, walking, pushing, pulling and the ability to provide partial or complete assistance with non-personal activities of daily living, without assistance from another healthcare worker, or significant other.
- Ability to work in time-sensitive or stressful situations.
- Sit in a chair/stand for extended periods.
- Ability to commute to various client locations throughout the work day/week.
- Eligibility to drive on company business and a satisfactory driving record required
Working conditions:
50-90% of work is performed in a client’s home. The position does have exposure to malodorous, infectious, body fluids and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleaning/disinfectant agents.
