The Hospital Coordinator trains, supervises, and assists certified veterinary technicians, CSRs, veterinary assistants, and kennel assistants to plan, coordinate, and perform a variety of duties concerned with animal health and client education and to promote greater efficiency by relieving veterinarians of technical work and administrative detail at Jersey Village Animal Hospital.
7+ years of continued LVT/CVT experience and at least 4+ years of STRONG leadership experience, leading different teams across the hospital. Urgent and emergency background preferred.
This position also encompasses all the duties of the Veterinary Assistant/Tech. The Hospital Coordinator is under the direct guidance and supervision of the Hospital Director. The Hospital Coordinator assists in multiple animal care procedures, including physical examinations, dental procedures, surgeries, immunizations, euthanasia, client education, marketing, inventory maintenance, and developing weekly training rounds for their departments, based upon what they or leadership feel is lacking.
This position requires a working knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs, common diseases, their symptoms, means of transmission, treatment, and prevention, and other basic preventative healthcare
recommendations.

The Hospital Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Hospital Director, who will indicate general assignments, limitations, and priorities. The Hospital Coordinator uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently without specific instruction but refers deviations, problems, and unfamiliar situations not covered by instruction to the practitioner for decision or help. Completed work is reviewed for technical accuracy and compliance with established procedures. The practitioners ensure the finished result, and methods are technically accurate and compliant with instructions or established procedures. Administrative supervision will be provided by the Hospital Director & Medical Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS RECAP:
• Train, supervise, and assist technicians, assistants, kennel attendants, and CSRs in various technical and client education duties.
• Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance. Conduct timely performance evaluations, mediate interpersonal problems, and address concerns. Make recommendations to the Hospital Director concerning personnel matters and assist with follow-through of disciplinary actions.
• Receive, handle, and treat patients with skill, compassion, and care, including monitoring during anesthesia, administering fluids, assisting in diagnosing, surgery, and general and specialized technical care.
• Accurately perform laboratory (ANTECH, IDEXX) tests.
• Accurately dispense and administer medications and vaccines.
• Ability to observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, noticeable signs of illness, disease, and discontent.
• Regular attendance and timeliness are essential functions to fulfill the requirements of this position (40 hours per week). You will also need to be available to your entire team during business hours.
• Strong communication and client service skills. Considerable tact and diplomacy are required. Ability to work with clients and patients in a professional, friendly, hospitable manner, and being comfortable with having difficult conversations with team members and clientele.
• Work well with all team members and ensure that your actions support the hospital, the doctors, and the practice philosophy.
• Perform general physical activities that require bending, standing, stooping, and moving from room to room as needed to make sure the needs of the hospital are met at all times.

Responsibilities:
How you'll make an impact:
- Maintain and uphold the Core Values and Mission Statement of MVP.
- Follow and enforce hospital policies set forth by the Practice Manager, Medical Lead, and MVP.
- Assist with surgery and clinics for inpatient and outpatient animals.
- Allocate areas of responsibility to nurses/technicians and ensure this is carried out fully and all records are kept up to date.
- Assist with technician schedules and ensure they have the correct training for each area.
- Ensure all new staff members receive a full induction and successful completion of the induction handbook in a timely fashion.
- Maintains nursing/technician staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
- Educate clients and team members on products and medications sold including dietary products and answer questions regarding product purchase/use.
- In conjunction with the Practice Manager, adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and Risk assessments for all clinical areas in addition to maintaining the Practice Standards Scheme requirements.
- Assist Practice Manager in addressing negative feedback on NPS and celebrating positive feedback.
- Assist Practice Manager with scheduling of regular clinic meetings.
- Regularly review the efficiency and effectiveness of the clinic with the Practice Manager and Medical Lead.
- Ensure good stock control and rotation is implemented.
- Produce any KPIs’ or reports on request of Senior Management.
- Ensure that the hospital and its employees are compliant with federal and state animal health laws and regulations including OSHA, Radiation, state board requirements and DEA.
- Assist with ensuring good communication between all departments and team members.
- Ensure own licenses, knowledge, and skills are kept up to date.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- LVT required or actively pursuing licensure.
- Veterinary Technician experience required – 5 or more years.
- Management experience preferred – 2 or more years.
- Must be proficient in a variety of skills ranging from but not limited to laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental and nursing skills.
- Ability to demonstrate patience and composure in stressful situations, and ability to handle a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
- Ability to give SQ, IM and IV injections.
- Knowledge of usage, dosage, and common side-effects for commonly used prescription drugs and ability to readily explain them to the clients.
- Knowledge of the common anesthesia and recovery states and ability to alert veterinarians when symptoms change or when concerns arise with hospitalized patients.
- Ability to properly extubate, monitor temperature and recover a patient from anesthesia.
- The employee must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics, and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
