Position: Housing our Youth Housing Navigator
Classification Non-Exempt
Supervised By: Transitional Aged Youth Team Lead
Job Summary: Provide navigation of housing services to the HOY participants. Provide supportive housing case management, outreach and engagement, assistance with housing placement and stabilization services. Assist in program development, operation and team decision making while supporting program outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct screening and assessments with participants experiencing housing crisis
- Administer the Transitional Age Youth Vulnerability Index-Service Prioritization Decision Assistance Tool (TAY-VI-SPDAT) to participants, if needed
- Assist participants that meet requirements for program assistance and determine appropriate referrals or temporary emergency shelter placement vouchers
- Provide quality trauma informed and positive youth development principles to participant.
- Provide developmentally appropriate assessments and case management services
- Build relationships with and recruit local hotels/motels/landlords to partner with HOY
- Assist with paperwork related to housing including applications, security deposits and/or lease signings
- Assist participants with interpreting their lease, paying bills and budgeting
- Refer and link participants to appropriate community resources and provide “wraparound” support services as needed
- Submit required narrative for collaborative reporting to funding sources
- Track goals, compile data and complete reports for funding sources
- Assist participants with coordinating transportation to and from activities and appointments as needed
- Practice non-aggressive defensive driving techniques
- Perform other administrative tasks as assigned and assist with maintaining proper document storage and auditing
- Participate in and attend all required staff meetings, trainings, and appropriate agency-wide committees

Qualifications:
Education A Master’s Degree in human services or related field or equivalent work or volunteer experience and training preferred. Skills: Must work well with persons of varied sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds, and with individuals who are differently abled. Awareness of relationship violence, child abuse, stalking, and sexual abuse and assault preferred. Knowledge of counseling and advocacy techniques for people who have been victims of crime, including crisis intervention and case management skills beneficial. Previous employment or volunteer work in human services, community agencies or other related non-profit or social change organizations a plus. Good oral and written communication and computer skills are required. Bilingual (Spanish/English) speaker preferred. Other Requirements: Must pass a criminal background check. Must have a valid California driver’s license, a safe driving record, automobile insurance, and a reliable vehicle.
Physical Demands:
- Reading and typing on a computer frequently.
- Sitting for long periods of time at required meetings or in supervision.
- Daily traveling in car to meet with clients and attend agency and community meetings.
Work Environment:
- Office environment.
- Travel to meet with clients.
