Housing Navigator (Grant Based)
Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm (Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the program)

JOB SUMMARY:
The Housing Navigator is responsible to assist veterans and their families with finding affordable, safe, and stable permanent housing in the community within the SSVF Program for HUD-VASH recipients. Additionally, this position will assist with engaging, managing and retaining landlord and property management company relationships for program participants. In this capacity, the housing navigator will provide landlord outreach and engagement services to develop a full range of permanent housing opportunities for homeless veterans. This service aims to address the homelessness crisis for Veteran Families through enhanced housing navigation services, which are embedded into the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing ( HUD-VASH) Program. The SSVF Housing Navigator will assist Veterans with a HUD- VASH Voucher with their housing search process to expedite their transition from homelessness into permanent housing. The Housing Navigator will work in close collaboration with the HUD- VASH teams to support Veterans in their housing search and placement process, ensuring that Veterans are connected to the services which will assist in a successful housing placement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 1 year of prior experience in social services or housing field working with veterans or the homeless required.
- Some knowledge of Rules and Regulations of the federal housing programs
- Must be well organized, a self-starter, able to work autonomously in the community, and able to work as a member of a team.
- Must possess a valid unexpired NJ driver’s license
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to complete work in an efficient, timely manner, multi- task and meet all deadlines.
- Ability to work with Veterans in the 7 catchment areas served.
- Work as a liaison between consumer, VA, and community providers.
- Mission driven attitude supplemented with integrity and passion.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
- Must be sensitive to and respect cultural diversity amongst clients, staff, and volunteers and able to work with diverse racial, ethnic and economic groups
- Flexible work schedule if needed.
- Ability to work effectively with a team of other professionals and coordinate services as needed.
- Ability to adhere to ethical principles about confidentiality, informed consent, compliance with relevant laws, and agency policies (e.g. critical incident reporting, HIPPA, mandated reporting
