The WV Cancer Prevention and Control at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Research Coordinator.
About the Opportunity
This position is responsible for supporting ongoing research and evaluation activities in the field of cancer prevention and control with a specific emphasis in cancer communication science. The person in this role will gain practical experience in health communication, mixed methods research, social listening, knowledge translation, and dissemination science.

What You'll Do
- Conducts research and evaluation activities as directed.
- Executes and implements specific segments of a research project.
- Investigates and recommends alternative approaches to improve quality of results.
- Conducts literature reviews.
- Utilizes and maintains data collection software.
- Contribute to the dissemination of findings and projects associated with the CHATS Lab, including developing training for researchers and the public.
- Assists with the creation and maintenance of Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols to ensure data protection and research activities follow best practice, are conducted ethically, and are compliant with university-level, as well as national and state level policies for the responsible conduct of research
- Functions as a team member of Cancer Prevention and Control (CPC). Assists with other CPC program activities as requested by Senior Staff members.
- Participates in the creation and dissemination of cancer information through the development of resources such as handouts, flyers, presentations, internal and external communications, videos, photographs, posters, infographics, social media, websites, etc.
- Assist with the planning and development of multimedia projects.
- Maintains data collection tools and summarizes data collection processes, procedures, and activities.
- Conducts literature reviews
- Assists with the development of grant applications to further research opportunities
- Contributes to articles, abstracts, and posters to promote programmatic work and outreach of CPC.
- Completes all required WVU trainings and certifications.
- Functions as a member of the CPC staff and participates in staff meetings, required conferences, training seminars, program meetings, regular team meetings, etc. Includes conferences and training seminars provided by the WVUCI, Mountains of Hope (MOH) Cancer Coalition, and other relevant entities.
- Participates in and contributes to the mission, vision, and strategic plan of WVU Cancer Institute (WVUCI) and the Department of Cancer Prevention and Control (CPC).
- Represents WVU Cancer Institute and/or CPC at state, regional, and national meetings, and conferences.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, health communications, social work, health education, healthcare administration, marketing, or other healthcare professions degree.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the following:
- Health-related health communication
- Research and/or public health dissemination
- Experience in coordinating health education programs, event planning, group dynamics, leadership, and program assessment preferred.
- Experience with community outreach and education, public communication and activities, and academic detailing with healthcare personnel preferred.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including writing correspondence and preparing reports.
- Strong time management, organization, and multi-tasking abilities.
- Skilled at synthesizing discussions for documentation and preparing accurate meeting minutes.
- Ability to establish priorities, adhere to deadlines, have high attention to detail and follow through, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Demonstrates proficiency with general computer applications including Microsoft Office.
- Skilled in maintaining cooperative working partnerships.
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary team environment and to coordinate participation of team members from various backgrounds.
- Ability to work as part of a team and with significant degree of independence.
- Commitment to principles of community, diversity, and inclusion.
- Ability to travel with occasional overnight stays, working outside the traditional work week when needed.
- Ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards.
- Knowledge of current health issues, health education and behavioral theories, and health information needs of the medically underserved preferred.
- Ability to interact sensitively, effectively, and professionally with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, ethnic, and professional backgrounds and persons of all ages and orientations.
- Demonstrates proficiency with database management software, internet search engines, REDCap, Qualtrics, SPSS, SAS, Atlas Ti, Nvivo, etc. (preferred)
- Experience with statistical analysis.
- Demonstrates ability and experience in health-related research and evaluation techniques.
