Job Title: IT Plant Technician
Location: Vance AL (Onsite)

Shift: Sunday - Thursday night 9 PM to 5 AM

Job Summary: This role involves providing direct technical support for office applications, including desktop configurations, hardware and software installation, and maintenance of database software, spreadsheets, and other programs to meet end-user needs. The incumbent will install and configure equipment and software, perform maintenance, and troubleshoot to resolve hardware/software issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as System Administrator in the absence of the IT Manager.
- Respond to employee inquiries in person and via phone regarding all company-supported applications.
- Identify the source of computer problems (hardware, software, user access, etc.).
- Act as a liaison between staff and the technology department to resolve issues.
- Manage backup, security, and user help systems.
- Consult with users to assess computing needs and system requirements.
- Test programs or databases, correct errors, and make necessary modifications.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure.
- Install and test new products and improvements to computer systems, such as new databases.
- Train users and answer questions.
- Develop data models describing data elements and their usage.
- Provide assistance to staff and users in solving computer-related problems.
- Test, maintain, and monitor computer programs and systems, including coordinating installations.
- Coordinate and link computer systems within the organization to increase compatibility and information sharing.
- Expand or modify systems to serve new purposes or improve workflow.
- Determine computer software or hardware needed to set up or alter systems.
- Diagnose hardware and software problems and replace defective components.
- Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations.
- Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments, including hardware, systems software, applications software, and configurations.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.
- Monitor the performance of computer systems and networks, coordinating access and use.
- Perform routine network startup and shutdown procedures and maintain control records.
- Configure and test computer hardware, networking software, and operating system software.
- Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes.
- Confer with network users to solve existing system problems.
- Monitor network performance to determine if adjustments are needed and where changes will be required in the future.
- Evaluate and resolve user problems, identify and obtain appropriate resources for complex problem resolution, correct routine problems, and contact additional resources for assistance.
- Instruct computer system users in the use of equipment and applications, answer questions, and assist in resolving problems regarding methods and procedures.
- Coordinate the installation of new hardware/software, install, test, and monitor the operation of hardware and software, and configure to meet departmental needs.
- Administer LANs/WANs, establish backup procedures, and maintain efficient operation of LANs/WANs; may serve as department computer access security officer.
- Provide server support and maintenance, using various utilities to troubleshoot, repair, and check server configurations.
- Maintain records and documentation for department computer systems; may write simple report generation programs or other straightforward computer code.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of computer functions and operations, commercial software including database software, and local area networks (LANs), including hardware/software installation.
- Knowledge of website layout, composition, design, and management.
- Familiarity with office automation principles and computer systems analysis.
- Proficiency with various hardware, operating systems, and related software used by all departments.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Server 2008 in the Active Directory environment.
- In-depth knowledge of operating systems such as XP, Windows 7, AS400, and Linux.
- Proficiency with software such as Microsoft Office.
- Understanding of cabling, network hardware, and configuration.
- Knowledge of telephone systems (wiring and troubleshooting).
- Familiarity with office equipment including printers, copiers, and fax machines.
- Ability to analyze and resolve user needs and problems, interpret and apply information from technical manuals.
- Ability to communicate technical issues to individuals with varying degrees of computer familiarity.
- Ability to instruct others in the use of computerized information systems, database software, spreadsheets, and other programs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department staff and employees.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in Information Systems or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of IT experience in a manufacturing environment.
