About the Job
Large municipality in Downtown Los Angeles is seeking a part-time contractor to serve as a part-time IT Desktop and Network Support Specialist.
The part-time IT Specialist will report to work on an as-needed with a maximum of 20 hours per week. Generally, the department is open Monday - Friday from 8 am - 5 pm. A regular work schedule will be finalized with the part-time IT Specialist so that work hours can be mutually beneficial, however the part-time IT Specialist must be available for an average of 20 hours per week, on-site.
Scope of Work
- Request for the creation, modifies, and deletes Windows Active Directory accounts.
- Requests for email account creation for new employees or email account transfer from other city departments.
- Install and deploy new equipment and follow through with making sure staff are logging into the system successfully.
- Maintain Windows updates and endpoint protection definitions are up to date to ensure workstation security integrity.
- Coordinates departmental technical work installing, maintaining and supporting desktop computers Local Area Network/Wide Area Network (LAN/WAN).
- Work with the department to analyze the technologies needed.
- Work with the department on getting budget to upgrade out of date technology such as end of life support from hardware/software vendors (e.g computer model, Windows version)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of office productivity tools and/or software, such as Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Drive, sufficient to select the appropriate tool based on their capabilities to compile and document information and/or make recommendations to end users about which tool and/or software to use tov meet their needs.
- Knowledge of local area network (LAN) configurations and communication protocols, such as open systems interconnection (OSI) model layers, which include transmission control protocol/internet protocol (TCP/IP), application, host-to-host transport, internet, and network interface, sufficient to troubleshoot and/or diagnose issues such as network connectivity, slow performance, desktop configuration, and determine if the issue is related to the network, system, or application.
- Knowledge of computer hardware and their use, including workstations, mobile devices, printers, and/or tablets, networking devices, such as routers, switches, and/or Wi-Fi access points, and software tools, including MalwareBytes, Wireshark, network protocol analyzers, and/or Disk Checker sufficient to support, develop, and/or evaluate a new or existing system and its potential benefits, such as time and cost, improved efficiency, output quality, control, and information access to meet user needs.
- Knowledge of various operating systems such as iOS, Microsoft Windows, and/or Linux, including their use, interoperability, capabilities, and limitations sufficient to understand limitations and advantages of each platform and determine the best operating system for a specific application.
- Knowledge of disaster recovery systems, such as synchronous or asynchronous, procedures including understanding and establishing recovery time/point objectives (RTO/RPO), and/or best practices, such as backing-up and restoring data, off-site storage, and/or data replication sufficient to ensure business continuity by planning, implementing, and/or managing these systems, and determining importance of an application, its recovery feasibility, and cost.
- Knowledge of Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) frameworks and methodologies such as Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and/or Control Objectives for Information-related Technologies (COBIT) sufficient to align business processes with department standards and provide effective and efficient service to stakeholders and/or the overall business
Salary
35 - 45 /hour
