Position Summary:
The In-Person Paraprofessional will work directly with students in a school setting, supporting the delivery of speech and language therapy services provided by a virtual Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). This role involves facilitating the virtual therapy sessions, assisting with technology, and ensuring that students receive effective and engaging support during their sessions. The paraprofessional will collaborate closely with the SLP and adapt activities to meet students' needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Session Facilitation: Assist students during virtual speech and language therapy sessions by setting up and operating devices (computers, tablets, headsets) and ensuring a smooth connection for the virtual SLP.
- Hands-On Support: Provide hands-on assistance as needed during therapy activities, helping students follow instructions and engage with materials provided by the SLP.
- Behavioral Management: Support appropriate behavior management techniques during sessions, helping maintain a positive and focused environment for learning.
- Material Preparation: Prepare and organize therapy materials, visual aids, and other resources needed for the sessions, based on guidance from the SLP.
- Progress Monitoring: Observe and record students' performance and engagement during sessions, sharing insights and feedback with the SLP to help track progress.
- Communication: Maintain clear and consistent communication with the virtual SLP, providing updates on student behavior, participation, and any technical issues that arise during sessions.
- Technology Assistance: Troubleshoot minor technical problems and help students navigate the virtual platform to ensure a seamless therapy experience.
- Student Supervision: Oversee students' safety and well-being while they are participating in therapy sessions, both before and after virtual sessions.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework or experience in education or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience working with children or individuals with communication disorders is a plus.
- Comfortable with technology and able to troubleshoot minor technical issues (e.g., internet connectivity, device setup).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, the virtual SLP, and other team members.
- Ability to follow directions, be adaptable, and manage multiple tasks during therapy sessions.
- Patience, empathy, and a supportive demeanor to encourage student engagement and success.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in an educational or therapeutic setting.
- Basic knowledge of speech and language therapy practices.
Working Conditions:
The position requires in-person interaction with students in a school or clinical environment, supporting them during live virtual sessions. The role may involve light physical activity, such as moving equipment or assisting students with hands-on activities.
