INDUSTRIAL MECHANICAL ESTIMATOR
Summary
The Industrial Mechanical Estimator will assist bid teams consisting of various personnel, vendors and subcontractors. Analyze all bid documents and conditions to prepare accurate job costs. Verify costs with suppliers, labor, and subcontractors. Coordinate turnover efforts with the project manager.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategies to win work to include purchasing, subcontracting and labor cost savings methods.
- Develop estimating system for use by self and others for general construction.
- Analyze all trades estimates and determine best cost estimate for project conditions.
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost and labor estimates for products, projects, or services, applying knowledge of specialized methodologies, techniques, principles or processes. May specialize according to particular service preformed.
- Review data to determine material and labor requirements and prepare itemized lists.
- Identify risks during estimate and determine proper mitigation plan for associated risks.
- Compute cost factors and prepare estimates used for management purposes, such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work, preparing bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors, and determining cost effectiveness.
- Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Collaborate with proposal team to ensure all of client requirements are satisfied.
- Identify resources needed to complete estimating effort and communicate to management.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and walkthroughs.
- Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and vendor proposals.
- Coordinate with projects managers and other relevant company staff.
- Schedule incoming quotes from subcontractors and material and equipment suppliers, hold turnover meetings on successful bids, and meet bid delivery dates.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience, Education & Skills
- Five or more years of estimating or project management experience in the heavy industrial mechanical construction industry.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent work experience.
- Be able to work in a team environment and be self-motivated.
- Must have a positive attitude and possess excellent motivations skills.
- Detail oriented with the ability to multitask.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interface with owner representatives, engineering firms, subcontractors, other team members and senior management.
- Strong analytic skills and financial analysis skills.
- Proficiency in use of computer software applications including, MS Office, HCSS or similar estimating programs, Agtek or similar earthwork programs, Bluebeam, Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Knowledgeable in Primavera.
Working Conditions
- Travel – This position is geographically located in West Valley City, UT. Subsequent projects will be regionally based.
- Construction Site Environment – physical ability to stand, walk, crawl, bend, reach and climb. Exposed to high noise levels.
- Office Environment – extensive sitting at desk and computer; some standing, bending at the waist, stooping and reaching required; ability to lift 5-20 pounds occasionally.
