Position Summary: Little Promises Preschool is a family-centered preschool in which parents, students, and staff work together to help meet the unique needs of each family strengthening the bonds of parents and children while providing children with excellent academic programming. Under the direction of the Little Promises Preschool Administrator
and in accordance with the mission and vision of Cincinnati Urban Promise, the preschool teacher is responsible for the academic, social-emotional growth, and development of all children in their care. Lead Teacher is also responsible for assuring compliance with codes of all State and local governing contracting agencies; and works collegially with other staff members of Cincinnati Urban Promise.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
- Provides a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that reflects the children's learning and growth.
- Perform ongoing developmental evaluations of children as required by funding sources and develop lesson plans and follow curriculum implementation that addresses the individual, holistic needs of each child.
- On an ongoing basis, plan, evaluate, and improve the physical environment in the classroom to create opportunities to meet the changing needs of the developing child.
- Provide responsive care to all children by adapting daily caregiving routines and plans to the interests and needs of the individual child and the group.
- Prepare developmental progress reports as needed.
- Demonstrate cultural competency and respect for the child's background by incorporating the cultural, linguistic, and familial values and beliefs into the childcare program and lesson plans.
- Maintain ongoing, open communication with parents/ caregivers - ensuring that families are at the center of the plans and that parents are empowered and engaged in their children's education.
- Ensure that each family receives an opportunity to build strong relationships and experience clear communication with teaching staff.
- Plan periodical parent conferences to discuss children's developmental progress, needs, and interests.
- Liaison with children's families to ensure a smooth transition from home to childcare setting and transitions from classroom to the classroom when needed.
- Assist families with children's transitions from toddler to preschool and from preschool to kindergarten.
- Maintain accurate, complete and timely client and agency records; Completes daily meal and attendance records.
- Maintains up-to-date emergency forms, curriculum plans, individual child development profile and other records as needed and remain in compliance with all state requirements and quality controls.
- Assures a healthy, safe, clean and developmentally appropriate environment for children.
Functional Job Requirements:
- Staff must believe in and act in accordance with both the Agency's and the program's mission statements.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have a minimum of a two-year degree in Early Childhood Education, CDA certificate and/or closely related field. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Must have previous supervisory experience and possess decision-making abilities.
- Must complete and maintain current status in First Aid, Common Childhood Illnesses, Child Abuse Prevention, and CPR.
- Must possess and demonstrate the ability to engage in all activities associated with the daily care, activities, and routines of the program's children, including but not limited to; interacting with children at floor level, physical education activities such as running, jumping, etc., lifting children and or equipment, and participating in outdoor activities, field trips and swimming as needed.
- Must possess oral, auditory and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.
- Must be capable of directing the daily administrative, program-related, and supervisory responsibilities of an Early Childhood Care and Education program.
- Bilingual candidates preferred.
