How you make a difference
As an Infectious Disease Control Coordinator, you will lead and oversee the infection control program within the healthcare facility. Your responsibilities will include maintaining a current knowledge base of infection prevention and control practices, serving as a liaison with the Department of Corrections regarding infection control issues, and chairing a multi-disciplinary infection control committee. You will provide professional education for healthcare, correctional, and other staff to maintain an effective infection control program and serve as a role model and mentor for infection control best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Establishes and maintains the site Infection Control Program, conducts surveillance and investigations, and integrates surveillance findings into the organization's plan for improvement of practices and patient outcomes.
- Maintains a knowledge base of current infection prevention and control information, and shares knowledge and skills with others while making decisions and performing activities in an ethical manner.
- Routinely assesses the educational needs of staff and patients, develops educational objectives and strategies to meet those needs, and provides consultation to administration, committees, staff, and managers on issues regarding infection prevention, control, and epidemiology.
- Develops and annually reviews a program plan with measurable objectives, determines appropriate resources needed to accomplish the proposed plan, and prepares a monthly report of infection control events and activities.
- Serves as the liaison with the Department of Corrections surrounding infection control issues and as chairperson for a multi-disciplinary infection control committee, and submits infection control meeting minutes as indicated in Policy and Procedure.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing, Baccalaureate degree preferred.
Experience
- Attends a basic infection control training course within the first year of entering the profession preferred.
- Prefer a minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience.
Licenses/Certifications
- Must have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse within the state.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR certification.
