Information & Referral Specialist - Action for Boston Community Development

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the first point of contact for customers calling in or visitors arriving at the ABCD Central Office. 
• Facilitate connecting these callers/visitors to onsite staff, and is responsible for ensuring that all callers and visitors receive accurate and timely information while maintaining safety standards.
• Provide warm and welcoming reception for all callers and visitors to the Central Office.
• Inform visitors of safety measures and provide protective equipment, as needed.
• Provide visitors with appropriate referrals to all ABCD programs and services and information on required program protocols.
• Develop and maintain working knowledge of all ABCD programs and services.
• Work with departments to maintain up to date information on services to be provided to visitors.
• Direct visitor traffic to the appropriate waiting room and inform receiving staff of their arrival.
• Maintain a detailed log of all visitors entering the building and the departments to which they were referred.
• Maintain and provide up to date information on how clients can access program information and services.
• Identify needs and make recommendations on how to improve processes and/or information sharing to improve customer interaction.
• Assist with miscellaneous administrative tasks. 
• Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• A minimum of a high school diploma and at least one to three years of relevant experience working in administrative or customer service environment required.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds.
• Bilingual skill in Spanish is preferred.
