Primary Purpose
Provide instructional support services. Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of certified teacher.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
Associate’s degree, two years (48 hours) of study at an institute of higher learning, orhave met formal academic assessmentrequirements
Valid Texas Educational Aide certificate from the State Board for Educator Certificationwill be recommended by the district upon hire
Special Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
Ability to work well with children
Ability to communicate effectively
General knowledge of standard office equipment
Experience:
Some experience working with children
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support
- Provide direct instruction of students under direct supervision of teacher.
- Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher, work with individual studentsor small groups.
- Assist in classroom management.
- Conduct parent involvement activities.
- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or workassignments.
- Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
- Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
Student Management
- Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
- Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
Other
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.

Equipment Used: Copier, personal computer, and audiovisual equipment.
Working Conditions
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Moderate walking, standing, heavy lifting and carrying up to 53 pounds; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching.Responsibilities require contact with individuals that may include exposure to disruptive behavior.
