About the Job
Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU) is seeking an Instructional Designer. PHSU has 11 health education programs, including an LCME accredited Medical School in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and St. Louis, Missouri. PHSU and its sister organization, Tiber Health Innovation, create innovative, scalable health education platforms with predictive capabilities. This is a full-time position at the PHSU St. Louis campus in downtown St. Louis. This position reports to the Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs.
The Instructional Designer at PHSU will play a crucial role in developing and enhancing educational programs within the health sciences disciplines. The individual will collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to design, develop, and implement innovative and effective instructional materials and methods that enhance student learning and engagement. The focus will be on integrating technology and evidence-based instructional strategies to support both traditional and online learning environments.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Curriculum Design and Development:
- Collaborate with faculty to design and develop course content, including syllabi, lesson plans, assessments, and multimedia materials.
- Ensure alignment of instructional materials with course objectives and accreditation standards.
- Develop and maintain course templates and instructional guides.
- Instructional Technology Integration:
- Identify and integrate appropriate educational technologies and tools to enhance teaching and learning.
- Provide training and support to faculty on the use of instructional technologies.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies to support instructional goals.
- Online and Hybrid Course Development:
- Design and develop online and traditional courses using a variety of delivery methods and technologies.
- Ensure courses are engaging, interactive, and accessible to all students.
- Develop and implement quality assurance measures for online and traditional courses.
- Faculty Support and Development:
- Conduct workshops, seminars, and one-on-one consultations to support faculty in the development and delivery of instructional materials.
- Assist faculty with the incorporation of active learning strategies and evidence-based instructional practices.
- Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for instructional design and technology issues.
- Project Management:
- Manage instructional design projects from conception to completion, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
- Coordinate with various stakeholders to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
- Maintain project documentation and provide regular updates to supervisors and team members.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum Development, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in instructional design, preferably in a health sciences or higher education setting.
- Strong knowledge of instructional design principles, learning theories, and educational technologies.
- Experience with CANVAS (LMS) and other educational technologies.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in health sciences education or related fields.
- Familiarity with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements in higher education.
- Proficiency in multimedia production and graphic design software.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required
- Demonstrated ability to take the lead and work against resistance to accomplish goals.
