Instructor of Chemistry for the College of Arts and Sciences. - Fort Valley State University

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is a full-time, non-tenure track position in Chemistry in the Department of Natural and Computational Sciences. The instructor will teach undergraduate-level courses related to Chemistry as needed by the Department, especially those in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Biochemistry. The instructor will also assist with departmental activities and initiatives.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teach undergraduate level Chemistry and related courses in a variety of instructional modalities.
• Provide quality instruction to undergraduate courses as assigned by the department chair every semester and maintain office hours (a minimum of 10 hours per week) and attendance records.
• Create, prepare, and supervise undergraduate laboratories and lab activities.
• Facilitate effective student learning using a variety of teaching methods.
• Use D2L and other related learning platforms to deliver relevant course materials and information to students.
• Develop course objectives, assignments, and means of evaluating student performance for the course.
• Provide prompt feedback on student assignments.
• Meet students and respond to student questions.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry (or a closely related field) or a Master's degree with at least 18 graduate hours earned in Chemistry.
• Ability to successfully pass a background check
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communicative skills and teamwork

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience teaching Chemistry lectures and laboratories at the undergraduate level
• Ability to create learning environments in which students can learn and thrive
