Instrument Tech - Ambulatory Surgery Center Of Western New York Operations LLC

Summary: Receives, maintains and issues surgical instrumentation and equipment for use in the operating room by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Maintains a safe, organized and efficient instrumentation room.

1. Functions in a fast paced environment efficiently.

1. Cleans and sterilizes instruments assuring availability for next case.

1. Examines instruments and equipment for breakage or deterioration and polishes instruments as needed.

1. Monitors items sent out for repair or sharpening and communicates disposition to other clinical staff.

1. Prepares instrumentation and supplies for sterilization by wrapping or peel pouching accordingly.

1. Maintains accountability for instruments of assigned specialties through communication and coordination with surgical technicians.

1. Maintains inventory log of all instruments for each surgical specialty.

1. Maintains equipment to include autoclaves and ultrasound.

1. Performs daily A-test’s on all autoclaves.

1. Maintains and updates instrument count sheets for tray inventories.

1. Maintains sterilization records for all autoclaves.

1. Participates in the economical use of supplies.

1. Participates in quality management initiatives.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must complete sterile processing program and certification within one year of employment.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software; internet software and database software.
