Job Details
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Medical Malpractice Paralegal to join our insurance defense firm in Miami, FL. The ideal candidate will assist attorneys in defending healthcare providers and institutions against medical malpractice claims.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and organize medical records, expert reports, and other case-related documents
- Draft legal documents including pleadings, motions, and discovery responses
- Prepare and submit HIPAA-compliant authorizations for medical records
- Assist in case management from intake through trial or settlement
- Conduct legal research using various tools and databases
- Coordinate with expert witnesses and manage their involvement in cases
- Maintain case files and ensure all deadlines are met
- Prepare attorneys for depositions, hearings, and trials
- Assist in developing case strategies and analyzing claim merits
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (preferred) or paralegal certificate
- 3+ years of experience as a paralegal, preferably in medical malpractice defense
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and ability to interpret medical records
- Proficiency in legal research tools and case management software
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Familiarity with Florida civil procedure and local court rules
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with insurance defense litigation
- Knowledge of medical malpractice laws and regulations in Florida
- Familiarity with electronic discovery platforms
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
