Job Details
This position will take the lead on managing complex international tax issues related to a global law firm’s tax compliance and filing obligations, with a focus on operations outside the U.S., particularly in London and Asia. As part of this role, the International Tax Accountant will work closely with the New York-based tax team, which oversees U.S. and foreign compliance, tax matters, and partnership accounting for all firm locations worldwide.
Location: NYC, CA, KS, DC area (or remote flexibility within these regions)

This position will take the lead on managing complex international tax issues related to a global law firm’s tax compliance and filing obligations, with a focus on operations outside the U.S., particularly in London and Asia. Key Responsibilities
- BEPS Pillar Two Compliance: Draft and manage compliance requirements.
- Inter-Firm Transactions: Coordinate inter-firm invoicing to optimize cash flow in foreign offices and conduct interoffice balance reviews.
- Taxing Rights Assessment: Evaluate and address issues regarding overlapping tax claims by multiple jurisdictions.
- Permanent Establishment Compliance: Analyze and apply permanent establishment standards across various countries.
- Partnership Accounting Expertise: Assist with accounting processes specific to global partnerships.
- Treaty Research: Research international tax treaties as they apply to partnerships, including requirements for jurisdictions without a permanent establishment.
- Tax Workpaper Preparation: Collaborate with local offices to prepare workpapers and conduct cash-to-accrual analyses, focusing on foreign tax credit limitations.
- Cash to Accrual Conversion: Provide calculations and modeling from cash to accrual at the individual level to assist with withholding branch taxes.
- Inter-Company Invoicing and Income Recognition: Issue inter-company invoices and manage income recognition.
- Global Tax Reporting Liaison: Coordinate with the New York tax team on global tax reporting and compliance for non-U.S.-based partners.
- U.S. Foreign Tax Credit Reporting: Support the U.S. team with foreign tax credit reporting for U.S.-based partners.
- Tax Structuring Advice: Understand the entity’s tax structure and advise on efficient tax strategies.
- Partner Tax Reserves: Manage and maintain non-U.S. partner tax reserves for U.S. review.
- Global Partner Income Modeling: Develop global models of partner income and distribution for internal use.
- International Advisory Relationships: Oversee relationships with external advisors, lead tax partners, and local tax authorities across international offices.
- Regulatory Monitoring and Advisory: Track and analyze tax legislation changes, advising on potential impacts to the firm’s operations.
- Additional Responsibilities: Provide support on VAT/GST, client-related withholding taxes, Japanese QII, partner recruitment, lawyer relocations, and new office establishments.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; Master’s in Taxation, International Tax, or CPA preferred.
- Professional Certifications: ACA or ACCA or equivalent experience.
- Experience:
