Firefly is currently seeking an Intern for our Home Based program. As an intern with Firefly, you will have the ability to shadow and gain a critical understanding of the rewards and challenges of the social services field. Our interns come out of our program with a key understanding of their impending careers and equipped with real world expectations.
Essential Functions:
- Create learning objectives to meet school program expectations for student learning plan with your supervisor
- Learn about & engage in the processes & procedures of home based programming
- Shadow field staff and interact with referral families/individuals
- Participate in individual & group supervision, and team meetings
- Assist program staff, including but not limited to director, case managers, therapists and administrative staff
- Learn about various Evidence Based Practices (EBPs) & apply to various cases
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with our partner agency, Department of Child Services (DCS)
- Engage in agency offered trainings
- Assist with data entry as needed
- Performs other related duties, as assigned
As a Home Based Intern, you may meet families challenged by:
- Child neglect and abuse
- Drug and alcohol addiction
- Mental health crisis
- Housing insecurity
- Parent/child conflicts
- Intimate partner violence
Your work with families may involve:
- Home visits
- Supervised parenting time
- Assessments
- Court observations
- Case documentation
*all as a shadow with field staff*
Requirements
• Must be at least 21 years of age and be enrolled in a Master's of Social Work program
• A desire to make the difference in the lives of children and families
• Capacity for all people to grow and change for the better.
• A valid driver’s license and insurance.
• Clear, effective communication skills
• Respect for confidentiality practices
• Appreciation for and ability to respond to cultural differences
• Adept prioritization and time management abilities
