Candidates hired in this position will work in person but will have the flexibility to work remotely when program need allows.
Overview:Title: Internship & Career Coordinator,
Young Adult Borough Center at Abraham Lincoln High School
Reports To: Program Director, YABC at Lincoln
Location: 2800 Ocean Parkway, Brooklyn NY 11235
Hours: 35 Hrs/Week; Non-Exempt
Schedule: (Mon-Thurs/11:45am - 7:45 pm; Fri 9 am - 5pm)
Salary: $50,000 - $55,000
Job Summary: The Advocate Counselor provides individual and group counseling, case management, advocacy, referrals and crisis intervention to older adolescents in the Young Adult Borough Center (YABC). The Advocate Counselor also assists in implementing other aspects of the program in close collaboration with agency and school personnel.
Major Duties:
- Provide case management for students identified as in need of supportive services.
- Provide individual and group counseling.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed.
- Provide family outreach and involvement as appropriate.
- Process interns within the Applicant Tracking System, gather timesheets, input hours, and other administrative duties as assigned.
- Develop and implement workshops responsive to student needs.
- Facilitate engagement activities.
- Organize and participate in GSS and DOE trips.
- Support and participate in school-wide events including BBQs, Award Ceremonies, Showcases, Student Orientations, etc.
- Assist students in attending school regularly through identifying obstacles and connecting with resources; attendance outreach including home visits.
- Assist in carrying out other aspects of the program, including planning trips, celebrations, and leadership activities.
- Refer students to relevant resources within Good Shepherd Services and other community organizations.
- Encourage, embody and foster a strengths-based approach grounded in youth and family development principles and trauma-informed practice.
- Support students with all aspects of the college preparation process including applications, financial aid, personal essay, and college visits.
- Function as an active member of Good Shepherd Services and school teams.
- Participate in staff/team meetings and DOE meetings as needed.
- Perform statistical, narrative, and record keeping duties as required.
The person in this role will have to travel locally and within the NYC area 1-2 times a week for site visits with existing partners and to develop new sites for our participants to intern at.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Exp. working with adolescents/young adults individually and in groups required.
- Bilingual Candidates are encouraged to apply.
- Candidates with experience in developing internships for youth or any kind of HR/Recruitment Coordination experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Must be able to work occasional weekends.
- Prior experience in a school setting helpful.
- Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Practice a plus.
- Must have excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth and family development perspective.
