POSITION SUMMARY:
Interventional Radiology Technologist is responsible for providing patient services using invasive cardiovascular technology under the direction of a physician, leading to the diagnosis and treatment of congenital and acquired organ and vascular disease.
Responsible for performing routine to complex diagnostic and therapeutic technical procedures at a level that does not require constant supervision of technical detail. Interventional Radiology Technologist assists in the performance of a variety of procedures requiring independent judgment, good knowledge of anatomy, and high technical knowledge of equipment. The technologist has a constant awareness of infection control standards, the importance of sterility and an acute awareness of patient care protocols
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- Must be a high school graduate.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) National Board certified. Vascular-Interventional (VI) Radiography Certification by the ARRT preferred. Maintain a valid State of Connecticut License to practice Radiographic technical procedures.
- On an on-going basis the incumbent must obtain the mandatory number of continued educational units (CEU’s) needed to maintain the currency of state licensure.
- The employee must take and pass ECHN’s mandatory annual education program and meet the ECHN age-specific knowledge/skill requirement, annually.
- Must be BLS Certified.
- Employee must have access to reliable transportation to travel between multiple work sites; and travel is required in order to perform essential duties.
COMPETENCIES:
- Requires advanced math skills in physics in order to understand and set the level of radiation exposure to the patient and themselves for the process.
- Must have a complete working knowledge in the principals of physics, anatomy, medical terminology, sterile technique and radiation protection as it relates to Radiology practice.
- The ability to speak, read and write using the English language is required in order to read procedures that are ordered, communicate with patients. .
- The incumbent must be able to effectively communicate with individuals from all age groups and demonstrate patience and empathy with patients.
- Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills. Positive professional demeanor is projected through verbal and non-verbal communications. Bilingual capabilities in English and Spanish are desirable, but not required.
- Successfully complete ECHN’s High Reliability Organization Education.
