**The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a Laboratory Technician 2 (NE S SEIU 925 Non Supv) to join their team.** **POSITION PURPOSE**
The primary purpose of this position is to assist with nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) based research in the metabolomics field within the Raftery Lab and to perform standard procedures related to cell culture and tasks related to sample preparation and data analysis as part of the workflow of the lab. Reporting to Dr. Raftery, and working under his direct supervision, Laboratory Technician II will be responsible for sample preparation, and analysis using NMR equipment on a range of metabolomics projects.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Sample preparation, NMR data acquisition, and data analysis
+ Prepare cell, tissue, and blood samples for NMR analysis according to standard operating procedures. (50%)
+ Operate the NMR spectrometer and report any problems to the supervisor. (20%)
+ Assist with data analysis including peak integration and report generation. (10%)
+ Assist in research method development by preparing samples and standards. (5%)
+ Perform calculations to prepare solutions, calibration curves, and internal standards with accurate concentrations. (5%)
+ Keep thorough laboratory records, and help maintain inventory and stock of laboratory supplies. (5%)
+ Wash and clean laboratory areas and equipment and assist researchers in their studies. (5%) **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
+ One year of college with course work emphasizing laboratory science OR one year's experience as a Laboratory Technician 1, or equivalent.
+ Experience in biochemical or clinical sample preparation and measurement using modern analytical equipment - 1-year minimum.
+ Experience with cell culture: cell line maintenance, growth and harvesting of cells, staining and evaluation - 1-year minimum. **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.** **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
+ Good mathematical skills and experience performing calculations in Excel.
+ Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal.
+ Attention to detail.
+ Understands and implements good laboratory techniques.
+ Professional presentation of materials, self, and department in all matters.
+ Ability to work with a variety of personnel, including research collaborators, clinical researchers, administrative staff, and outside entities. **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry, or a similar field.
+ Some experience with NMR is beneficial but not required.
