General Definition of Work
The incumbent is responsible for performing routine labor functions based on the area of assignment.
Special note: non-standard, rotating shift work to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. The incumbent works outdoors and is exposed to extreme temperatures.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.) and minimal experience performing duties related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties of the job such as those listed below.

Valid Driver's License of the appropriate class.
Essential Functions

Installs meters.
Raises and repairs manholes.
Performs asphalt repairs on roadways.
Performs concrete repairs on curbs and sidewalks.
Performs construction-related activities, such as framing walls and remodeling City buildings.
Performs building facilities general maintenance and repairs, including janitorial
services/duties.
Cleans and maintains City sidewalks.
Programs gate card readers.
Checks, installs, and repairs irrigation systems.
Mows, weeds, plants, prunes, spread seeds, fertilizers, and trims.
Marks fields and sets up for special events.
Makes park signs.
Moves and assembles office furniture.
Inventories supplies and materials.
Performs water sampling; reviews data results and assists with research should violations occur.
Researches and interprets applicable regulatory standards and statutes.
Assists the Division with preparing correspondence and reports to regulatory agencies.
Maintains regular attendance.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Methods, materials, and equipment used in construction, landscaping, and building facilities maintenance.
Irrigation and water systems.
Basic construction methods, including electrical systems, pipefitting, welding and fabrication, and masonry.
Safety precautions.
City codes and ordinances, traffic laws, and blue stake laws.
Water sampling.
Maintaining and repairing equipment.
Using hand and power tools.
Reading and interpreting blueprints.
Performing construction-related activities.
Operating various equipment related to assignment.
Performing traffic control.
Performing landscape activities.
Installing and repairing irrigation and water systems.
Using and storing chemicals, herbicides, and pesticides.

Working Conditions
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Incumbents may be subject to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilations, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises, and travel.
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or ten (10) to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Hearing ability: sufficient to communicate effectively with others in person, by telephone, and over radio equipment.
Speaking ability: sufficient to communicate effectively with others in person, by telephone, and over radio equipment.
Visual ability: sufficient to operate equipment and vehicles both day and night; observe unsafe road conditions; read and write reports, correspondence, instructions, etc.
