The Lead Registered Dietician develops, implements and promotes quality, evidence-based nutrition care to meet the needs of the patients in the acute care setting and in the out-patient setting as assigned. Supports organization, facility and department initiatives and team goals to maintain quality of care for in-patients and out-patients. Supports the Clinical Nutrition Manager in meeting the Clinical Team goal of providing evidence-based nutrition care. Supports community events to promote health and improve the nutrition status of the communities served by Hackensack Meridian Health.
Responsibilities:- Communicates department/team goals, safety standards, policies and clinical practice standards to the Clinical Nutrition Team. Assesses compliance to regulatory guidelines and department standards.
- Conducts medical record reviews for clinical nutrition team members as assigned.
- Communicates educational programming and competency training program for the clinical nutrition team to meet the goals of the department and patient care needs of the facility. Maintains team member records of training programs completed.
- Assists with on-boarding new team members. Coaches, trains, and develops clinical nutrition team member(s) as assigned.
- Completes daily scheduling/assignments of tasks and supervises RDNs in absence of the Clinical Nutrition Manager.
- Participates in the implementation of performance improvement initiatives / team projects of the Clinical Nutrition Team. Tracks team progress and ensures completion.
- Assists in regulatory surveys and leads surveys for the Clinical area in the absence of the CNM.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
- Utilizes the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) to develop, implement, and monitor evidence based medical nutrition therapy interventions for patients as assigned.
- Obtains appropriate data, analyzes and interprets data utilizing evidence-based guidelines, develops and implements evidence-based nutrition interventions and care plans, and monitors the progress of nutrition interventions by evaluating patient outcomes.
- Provides nutrition education and/or counseling as appropriate.
- Actively participates as a member of the health care team caring for the patient.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Minimum of 2 years experience as a Registered Dietitian required
- Performs work with minimal supervision. Handles complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. Possesses solid working knowledge of subject matter. May provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to subordinate group.
- Bachelor of Science in Nutrition or related field required
- Research, planning and interpersonal skills.
- Detail and customer/client oriented.
- Leadership skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
- 4 years of experience as a Registered Dietitian preferred
- Knowledge of specialty area preferred
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Registered Dietician License.
