Summary

Under the direction of the Director and/or Nurse Manager, the Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) is responsible for providing direct and indirect patient care duties for a group of patients, from simple to complex, for the specialty population on the unit or department, under the guidance and supervision of the registered nurse.

The Observation Service consists of two interconnected units providing care to Emergency Department (ED) and Observation patients. This dynamic environment is characterized by a high turnover of patients, with ED observation patients staying between 8 to 24 hours and Medical Observation patients remaining for 24 to 48 hours. Observation is a 18 bed unit, expandable to 22. Our dedicated team, which includes providers, nurses, department coordinators, and multi-professionals, promotes interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure the best patient outcomes. Train to interpret telemetry and obtain stroke certification. Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to facilitate efficient patient turnover. Deliver high-quality care to a diverse patient population with various diagnoses and conditions. Float among various clinical services as needed, based on qualifications and competencies.

12-hour shifts: 7 am – 7:30 pm or 7 pm – 7:30 am, Flexible scheduling with the ability to input preferences. Rotating weekends and holiday obligations.

Comprehensive orientation, including scheduled blocks of education, shadowing, simulation lab time, and optional ED fellowship for cross-training. All staff will receive ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) and MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behavior) training. Telemetry training and IV training opportunities available.

Education

High school or equivalent (GED). Completion of a certificate program for Licensed Nursing Assistant.

Certification, Registration & Licensure

Certification required: Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification, or equivalent course credentialed by American Heart Association.

Licensure required: Current New Hampshire State LNA license

Responsibilities

• Performs activities of daily living and personal care needs under the guidance and supervision of the Registered Nurse.

• Performs technical skills/procedures relating to physical, mental health and social needs of patients under the guidance and supervision of the RN.

• Documents care provided and reports to the RN observations of patient’s physical, social and mental status and basic patient data collected.

• Demonstrates adherence to safe patient handling policy.

• Demonstrates time management skills.

• Maintains the patient care areas to ensure cleanliness, safety and supplies of material and equipment.

• Receives delegated work adhering to the five rights of delegation.

• Performs job specific requirements and other duties as assigned.

• Serves as a preceptor for new employees.
