Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Health Promotion, the Local Office of Minority Health Project Manager is responsible for addressing factors that contribute to health disparities and work to achieve equity in areas that impact people’s health in Montgomery County.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Serving as a liaison by establishing, promoting, and maintaining collaborative long-term partnerships with various community agencies, groups, and governmental entities in the implementation and operations of minority health programs targeting health disparities in the community; coordinating the functions of multiple community-based programs
- Developing policies and strategies to support health efforts; advocating for the implementation of strategies and policies to reduce health disparities within the community
- Identifying the needs of targeted populations by monitoring the health status of populations; mobilizing community partnerships and making recommendations on strategies to improve the health of targeted populations
- Representing the Local Office of Minority Health in public speaking appearances; Acting on behalf of the Ohio Commission on Minority Health
- Demonstrating leadership by leading difficult and sensitive conversations related to health disparity topics and needed programs; engaging community partners to become part of the solution
- Assisting with and developing educational materials and information that meet the needs of ethnic and socio-economic levels and community groups
- Administering, coordinating, and/or completing special projects including grant writing for the Local Office of Minority Health programs
- Coordinating and contributing to budget and contract activities; monitoring program budget and making recommendations; preparing and providing financial and programmatic reports to sources of funding and others
- Active participant in professional growth through attendance at meetings, trainings, workshops, and webinars.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, or related field
- Two (2) years' relevant experience working with health related community-based programs
- Two (2) years' experience in program/project management and execution
- Two (2) years' experience in strategic planning, group facilitation, and leading large-scale strategic programs
- Understands and acknowledges that Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County uses evidence-based and evidence-informed public health practices based on scientific research including health promotion theory and practice, environmental health measures, and communicable disease control measures including vaccination, isolation, and quarantine practices, and medicine for treatment and prevention of disease, among others.
- Understands and acknowledges the use of tobacco or nicotine products in any form including replacement therapy products and prescription medications used to treat smoking addiction for anyone hired after January 1, 2014, is prohibited.
- Required to play an active role during a public health emergency, crisis, outbreak, incident, or event in which the Health Commissioner deems additional personnel resources are warranted. This may include changes in responsibilities and working locations/hours.
- Completion of Incident Command System 100 and National Incident Management System 700 courses within 90 days of hire.
- Valid State of Ohio driver’s license and insurance on any personal vehicle that will be used for work.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, or related field
- Knowledge of government policy and processes
- Background and training in Health Education
